Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Weir.
Hi Randy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m an indie author of 14 books, with currently two series. The Jarvis Mann PI series with 10 books and The Divine Devils Thriller series with 4 books. And I have a new series in the early stages of writing.
I’ve been writing since I was a teenager, which goes back more decades than I care to admit. Back then I wrote to deal with teenage angst. Now I write to deal with middle-aged angst. My books have been independently published since 2014 when I published a short story, The Case of the Missing Bubble Gum Card with private eye Jarvis Mann. A tough hardboiled detective with a snarky attitude and sense of humor. I’ve received three best book awards. One for best Psychological Thriller in 2019 for, The Front Range Butcher. And best thriller for The Divine Devils in 2021 and Fallen Star: The Divine Devils Book 2 in 2022.
I currently live in Westminster Colorado with my wife Kim and daughter Dakota, along with our two dogs Abby and Nuka.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an independent author comes with many challenges. Marketing is the biggest hill to climb. Getting your book in front of readers, when there are so many good books to choose from. Cost is also a factor when you’re an indie author. You must pay for everything yourself. Cover designs, editing and proofreading of your book, and paying marketing of your work. YOu get to keep most of the profits, but incur all of the costs.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve already covered I’m an author, but I’m most proud of the awards I won, especially the prestigious Silver Falchion Award I won twice for best thriller. Some of the names of those who’ve won that award in the past is incredible. Lee Child, Dean Koontz and Hank Phillippi Ryan to name a few. It’s really an honor being mentioned among those big-name authors.
