Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Riggin.
Hi Julie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in Architectural Studies-Interior Design before working for several years for high-end interior design firms in Chicago. After a handful of years, I craved a change to a warmer climate and moved south to Nashville. There, I met my husband, who is active duty Army. While living in Chicago in 2012 (for the 2nd time), I established Julie Kay Design Studio and I’m proud to say I’ve helped dozens of families transform their spaces into something that truly feels like home. We have since moved to 5 cities before landing in Colorado Springs in 2020. In the Spring of 2021, I opened my studio which houses my office and storefront full of unique furnishings, art, lighting, and decor.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenge of establishing my design business with every military move has certainly been a pain point, but has also given me the opportunity to design for clients all over the country!

Julie Kay Design Studio is a high-end interior design firm. We specialize in interior design for families who want to create a beautiful and functional home where their family can thrive. Our projects include new build construction, remodels, kitchen/bath renovations, space planning, and home furnishings. JKDS is a welcoming and comfortable environment where we strive to make each of our clients and storefront customers feel special.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that if you have a passion for what you do then you can pivot and adapt to continue pursuing your dream.
