Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Mora.
Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Chris Mora. I am originally from Costa Rica. My father’s side of the family has lived there for generations and my mother’s side largely lives here! I have lived in Wheat Ridge ever since moving here when I was a toddler. My family would recall that I never stopped building things as a child, I suppose that could be telling of how I have developed into my early adulthood. The largely unpublished history of the evolution of my work in making robots started then, with an interest in how geometry and physical, tangible, forms related to one another. My interest grew into character art and mechanism as time went on. In high school it manifested into a series of large watercolor paintings of sullen robot characters. But, while necessary to grow, painting wasn’t the medium for me. Together with my family, I got a small metal-working set up and my passion has grown from there! Beginning with large static sculptures, I was working in entirely hand fabricated steel parts and finishing works to be installed outdoors.
Recently, a new addition to my static-series has been added at a staggering 12′ tall! Again, while I still love making static robot sculptures, that wasn’t exactly where I would come to find the real outlet for my passion. Today I make articulate robot sculptures. My love of movement, shape and mechanism found its place in carefully machined and fabricated pieces of brass and stainless steel that assemble into my moving robots. Gears, axles, ratchets and other carefully crafted parts are paired with sweet little robot faces to create art that begs to be played with! Maybe the most simplistic way I could describe them would be to call them my little stainless steel action figures! If you like mechanisms, geometry, character art and fine craftsmanship my robots are for you!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part it has gone smoothly. Like most new business owners, I struggled in the initial years with management, marketing, and budgeting my time to take on as many projects as I could handle at a given time. However, challenges are what keeps me motivated. Being confronted by a seemingly daunting problem to solve is what I need, and I thrive under that pressure. Everything I learn is something I taught myself. Every day I work is an effort to improve my art. I live and breathe for my little robot sculptures.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name of my business may be a little specific, I do a lot more than make robots! While my artistic focus is undoubtedly in the creation of my robots, I also take all kinds of welding and fabrication work. I have done work in home remodels as well as industrial settings. I obviously prefer aesthetic-inclined work, but I have done a little bit of everything! Things like chairs, vanities, custom railings, tools for industrial use and much more! I love making decorative things as well as practical! I am experienced with finishing methods such as brushing, painting, powder coating and patina application. Whether you absolutely must own a robot to pose and play with or you would like a stunning piece of original furniture, I would love to craft something unique for you!

Definitely the scenery and the arts communities are what I like best. The communities I have been a part of are wonderfully supportive of people and their passions. As far as least, how can you say anything negative about Colorado?
