Life and Work with Belinda Stephens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Stephens.

Belinda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Here is my story… about seven years ago after I had my second child, I knew I wanted to be a stay at home mom but after about six months I decided I wanted to do something for myself and also make an income at the same time. I didn’t want to leave my children, so I looked into different things I could do from home. I remembered taking my son to get his newborn photos from a photographer that had a mini studio in her spare bedroom. That is when I decided I wanted to pursue photography and have a studio at home. I knew nothing about photography. I didn’t even take the photography class that they offered at my high school. I knew this was something I really wanted so I bought a professional camera and took a photography class. After my photography class, I became obsessed with taking photos. Luckily I had two kids to practice on. I would stay up late nights teaching myself how to edit and wake up and take photos of my children all day. My second son was only six months, he just sat and smiled with no complaints. After a lot of studying and dedication, I booked my first shoot just one month after purchasing my camera. Little did I know, I would have over 1,000 shoots under my belt, a full basement studio and be one of Denver’s top 20 newborn photographers. It truly has been a dream come true.

Has it been a smooth road?
My words of advice:
Always remember that no matter how many photographers/artists are out there, that you can stand out and that you are unique.
Never compare yourself to others. Instead find inspiration, focus on yourself and create art.
Never give up. There were times when I wanted to quit because I didn’t think I was good enough. I am still learning things seven years later. Nothing comes easy. Be able to push through the times, learn from your mistakes and stay focused on your goals and dreams.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Belinda Stephens Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a photographer that specializes in newborns and children. I have a home studio and have invested in so many backdrops, props, outfits, and accessories to make each session unique. When my clients hire me, the only thing they need to bring is the baby. They don’t need to spend any extra money buying outfits or accessories and clients love that. I am so proud to be named Denver’s top 20 newborn photographer on Expertise for the 3rd year in a row.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Right now, I am so busy with my family and career, I don’t often have free time for books, blogs or podcasts My supportive husband and children are my drive for everything I do.
