Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Kwak.
Amy, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Being active and athletic has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a family consumed by Motocross racing that started when I was six years old. We would pack up every weekend and head for the races or a camp trip with some of our best friends, family, and a community of people with the same love.
Racing and riding created a passion, an outlet, social connection, strength, and drive for me that I now value and have helped shape my life today. I wanted to create a career that allowed me to stay true to these values with the freedom to grow however, I wanted to. This is why I became a Personal Trainer/Health Coach and am now using all of these core values to grow Girl’s Ride Too and Rev Fit by AK to new heights.
Growing up with these experiences and now having these incredible career paths, I now harness a drive and standard for my life and my wellbeing that continues to push me forward. Having an understanding of where that came from for me, I want to help other people discover their drive and create a standard for themselves that will unlock their potential for new opportunities in life.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle for me has been making enough money. I have been so passionate about helping others that I didn’t put my financial well-being first. The struggle has been finding a balance, a voice, and discovering my self-worth along the way. I always knew that riding and staying fit would be a part of my life – but I’ve never really considered that I could make them my primary source of income until recently. I see so many people in Colorado struggle with this chasm or trying to be as active in their sport as possible… and then separately trying to make enough money to fund that passion and also live. It’s like we’re taught we can either a) be a pro racer b) be a mechanic or work in a shop or c) just do another job and do it for fun.
Only recently am I seeing how my passion for riding and fitness can be monetized in SO many ways. I’ve always struggled with getting paid to do anything in the motocross industry because it seems too good to be true! But part of the mission behind GRT and Rev Fit by AK is empowering badass women to be more confident, not just in riding – but in all areas of their life! 2020 is the year I’m committed to being an example of what’s possible.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
From my background with racing and my experience as an entrepreneur, I wanted to tie it all together in Girl’s Ride Too (also known as Girl’s Ride Toosday). Girl’s Ride Too is a growing movement in the female dirt biking community. GRT currently meets at Leadville MX Park bi-weekly from June- Sept. on “too”sday nights and hosts events for women to come to grow their skills on a bike, but more importantly, find a sense of comradery and support with like-minded, badass women. The events call us all together and have created a space for women of all ability levels to grow in the sport, be in a comfortable environment to try new things and to support each other.
GRT’s popularity has grown so much that It’s even becoming hard to keep the men away from a freshly prepped track and so many badass women, that we are now able to make GRT a private event for 2020 on our “Too”sday nights. I value and am so proud of the creative outlet GRT brings to a unique community of women and young girls. There are so many people behind this movement that have contributed to the vision and values of the group and with the continued support from local tracks, dealers, reps, entrepreneurs, and most importantly, the female riders that fuel our passion, GRT is heading towards big things. Looking forward, the goal of GRT is to continue to grow our presence and allow this movement to reach riders nationwide. We are creating opportunities for female riders to find their space in the many areas of this sport that we all love.
Anyone that rides dirt bikes, from a competitive level to even just the weekend enthusiast, will tell you that fitness is a bi-product of riding. Motocross is one of the most physically and mentally enduring activities there is. That is why I have made fitness a priority and continue to motivate others to do the same. As a Personal Trainer with 10+ years of experience, I am continually working to grow Rev Fit by AK. Through this, I offer Training and Coaching at all of my capacities: in-person, online, sports specific programs, retreat based programs, workouts of the week, and a monthly subscription to my exercise library. I am most known for my reputation for creating relentless workouts and programs and I continually strive to make my clients beg for mercy.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see both the Fitness and Motocross Industry continuing to grow in the next 5-10 years. Especially with the involvement and participation from more women.
