Meet Jason Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Miller.

Jason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Jason Miller and I grew up in a small town on the border of Montana and North Dakota. I grew up on a farm as a hard-working kid raising crops and tending livestock with my family. We were a small farm operation that just made enough to live a comfortable life. My parents worked very hard to provide for my sister and me, but it was certainly a tough road and a lot of hard work for them. We were not poor by any means, but we fell in a common category like many, we lived comfortably. There were certainly no luxury cars and fancy houses and certainly no beachfront property for a summer vacation home.

But this taught me a valuable life lesson growing up…. Appreciate the things you do have. My family has a long bloodline of military service and has served in many of the wars we have fought. Following a time-honored tradition, I joined the military at the ripe age of 17 and shipped off for basic training upon graduation from high school. Upon completion of all my training as a new Infantryman I was assigned to my first duty station at Fort Campbell, KY. I spent the first part of my career in a light Infantry Recon Platoon as a Scout Sniper and Spotter. I have made many moves over the course of my 20+ year career in the military. I have seen many things and have been to many places both good and bad just like many of my fellow brothers and sisters at arms.

Then my life changed. I met my beautiful wife Erika who was also in the military. We instantly related being in the military and because of our common goals and desires for a future of personal, professional and financial independence. We moved from place to place as we all do in the military and realized that there must be more. After my wife got out of the military, she found it very difficult to start a career. She would just begin to climb the ladder of success just in time for us to make that next move to another duty station. So, she did what many military spouses do and went to college. She now has two Masters Degrees, but has never fully been able to utilize her education because of moving every three to four years.

Like many, she has worked in jobs not careers. My wife and I have always had that sense that there was something better out there waiting for us. We have discussed many times the possibilities of starting our own business full-time and giving up the hectic life of the military. I had started and operated several successful businesses while in the military but could never operate them at full capacity. They were all successful but juggling time was always a challenge. At the time I was well over the10-year journey of my military career so it made sense to stick it out and get my 20-year retirement.

So, fast-forward to 2014 -I deployed to Afghanistan and spent some time there assisting the Afghan Army rebuild and take control of their country. It was there that I had an absolute epiphany as I was sitting on my makeshift bed inside a sweatbox plywood room that was about the size of a prison cell. This is where the seeds were planted in my mind to take action and start my own strategic consulting firm. With 20+ years of military leadership knowledge it was a recipe for success. I knew I was quickly approaching retirement and needed to figure out a plan for our next chapter in life.

So, there I was on the crappy make shift bed with crappy internet service searching for information on launching my new company while in the middle of a warzone. I did the research but ultimately set it aside as an idea upon redeployment home. When I returned home and settled back into normal life, I began to reengage the starting of a sustainable strategic consulting firm. I remembered the research I did on many business models when I was deployed, so I did more research and decided to roll out the model to mentor and help CEO’s grow their companies.

This was an opportunity for me to do when I retired and an opportunity for my wife to have a meaningful career working from home as the project manager for the company. So, I decided to launch the new business venture. I wanted to create a lasting income that would allow my family to spend more time together and not have to live the normal 9-5 lifestyle dealing with traffic day-in and day-out and having to report to a “boss.” I wanted to truly become the CEO of my own life by taking my years of military experience and pouring it into a solid business model. My goal has always been to earn a full-time income using the skillsets that I developed from running earlier businesses and being in the military and be the CEO of my own life.

So, I jumped in feet first and 100 miles an hour. I started attending business training, which was very relatable since training is second nature for us “military types.” I reached out to industry leaders for mentorship to help walk me through the things I didn’t fully understand. The one thing that set me apart was my consistent drive to succeed at anything I do. The military has deeply instilled this attribute in me after 20+ years. This has served me well in our business ventures and has helped me reach new heights in our lives. I will never have to work “normal” employee jobs ever again. My military career has been a driving factor in my success because of that sheer will to succeed.

Like many, I enjoyed serving my country. It was exciting, rewarding and had taken care of my family in many ways that the outside world cannot relate to. However, I found a new start and a new journey down another path in our lives as successful entrepreneurs helping others find their success in life. Now, to be honest, business up to this point was not completely new. In 2001 I started my first eBay business online. I nurtured this business for almost 14 years and it was also very successful. Running a successful eBay business is not an easy task.

Imagine shipping thousands of items from your home without a central storage and shipping facility. eBay was a fun and exciting business but it grew out of control. I often tell people we got too big for our britches in the physical products niche. Then I found the power of my brain in strategic consulting. This changed the game and is how we have been able to build a sustainable business today. Miller & Company is super unique for the reason that we only operate on results. This is what we pride ourselves in. Our motto is Miller & Company “Where Results Matter”.

The key uniqueness about our company is we only get paid after we create results for a company. I have always held the idea close that it is important to get people results. The consulting world is filled with people that say they can help but at the end of the day they do nothing but take your money. We set out 3 years ago to change this mentality. If Miller & Company can’t do what we say, we don’t get paid, it’s that simple. We are a very “High Touch” boutique company that focuses on a few rather than “Too Many”.

Thus, far out of the CEO’s that we have worked with over the last years not one of them left us do to our performance. This speaks volumes about how our systems, processes and proprietary ways of scaling and growing companies is like nothing on the marketplace.

Now that we are established in the industry, we have been able to create quarterly sales growth in our business through cultivating multiple income streams. I am now a seasoned CEO with overwhelming passion to help other business owners and CEO’s succeed. I have mentored thousands of people over 2+ decades. My major strengths are in Project Management, Hyper Company Growth, Scaling and Strategic & Operational implementation. I have been fortunate to build several companies of my own from the ground up since 2001.

I also have a specialty in helping businesses create a passive system of income and guiding other business owners through the rough waters of “Growing” and “Scaling” their company in sequence. I currently operate Miller and Company as well as other companies with multiple brands to include a full-service Marketing Agency. I am a published author in the business world and my four published books have been featured on the front desk of Barnes and Noble, stores worldwide and are also available on Amazon. I donate all book sales to “Homes for Hero’s” of which donations have played some part in building homes for Wounded Warriors.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is never smooth. There are always bumps along the path. We meet crossroads every day and have to make decisions that lead to further success or failure. Failure is part of business and it’s important to get up and dust yourself off and move the chains forward. I tell my clients “Don’t make excuses, make progress”. Failure in any part of our lives is an important learning tool. Failure teaches us not to make the same mistake twice and as my grandfather used to tell me growing up. “The hardest lessons you will learn are the ones you have to pay for”. We have paid our fair share through mistakes and wrong decisions in our company. But we learned from them and pivoted back on course. Like they say, you only know, what you know.

Please tell us about your business.
Our passion is helping business owners move from working for their business to making the business work for them. We help them find the clarity, direction and focus they need to supercharge their results and fall in love with their business like never before. Our expertise is second to none when it comes to removing the barriers that impede success. With over 2+ decades of business and mentoring experience under our belt, we will show them how to take proper command over their team, their cash-flow, and their lives. We will work with them to achieve more profit and more enjoyment from their business. Most of all, begin loving their business and operating from a 30,000-foot viewpoint. Be the visionary and delegate the doer role to the right staff.

We focus on smart business growth in a changing environment. We are always highly focused on the customer and help our clients execute strategies as fast as possible. Growing a business fast requires special attention and focus on the customer’s needs, wants and desires. This means focusing on the problems to be solved that allow you as a business owner to offer a product that fills a gap in the marketplace quickly. Doing this means higher profits in their business and also higher rates of customer acquisition and customer retainability. The faster they can develop products that fill these consumer gaps the more their company will grow. This requires fast action in a rapid production mode to get ahead of your competition.

This is what we pride ourselves in doing with our clients. We help them and their company build a successful model and implement the tools, plans and support structures to drive their business to its optimal potential. We will help them focus on each phase of growth for their business. Short term, mid-term and long-term growth are the growing way-points that will drive their business through a layered level of success during each phase. This allows them to reinvest quickly and grow faster. We will help them with fresh ideas, new concepts and how to further those ideas with their staff to make them the winning products for their business.

One of our most important factors for success is working with their team of professionals to create a sustainable plan to grow their company. It’s important that their vision is executed in their company but this can’t happen if their staff does not have the ability to put their vision into motion. This is why it is so important to create the procedures and functions within their staff sections to guarantee execution and success.

Our goal is for our CEOs to Dream Bigger and achieve the most possible profit for their company. “Here is the best part and what sets us apart from the typical consulting firm. If we can’t help a company “Increase” their current profits in their business than they owe us “NOTHING”. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain by becoming a client as we take on all the risk.
