Meet Jenni Nettik of Mercuria Running

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenni Nettik.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jenni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Mercuria Running after teaching art for ten years, I was ready to use my education skills in a new creative capacity. I feel lucky my jobs have always been other people’s hobbies — running & art. I’ve loved both since I was a young kid, I’m grateful I’ve been able to turn my passions into my profession.

Initially, Mercuria Running focused on form coaching, since then, we’ve expanded to include training plans, online coaching, small group workshops, and soon — running retreats. Expanding beyond form coaching allows us to connect with more runners in locations all around the world.

Every runner has a different reason WHY they run. Learning our runner’s stories is one my favorite parts of coaching. We get to share the joy of running everyday while helping people work towards their dreams.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is a roller coaster of highs and lows. I always tell new business owners who reach out for advice that you’ve got to stick with it, especially when things get tough, lows are followed by highs, you just don’t know when the high will come. It takes a few years for a business to really feel like a business. Mercuria Running has evolved over the past seven years, it’s not what I imagined on day one — it’s better!

I founded Mercuria Running with another woman and ended up buying her out early on. Having the freedom to make decisions on my own helped Mercuria Running adapted quickly when needed.

I also learned early on it’s important to surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision — and want you to succeed! I’ve been really lucky that many of my biggest supporters have been my clients. Recently, one of my athletes, Brittany Charboneau, joined Mercuria Running as a coach because she saw success with my coaching style and wanted to share it with more athletes.

Mercuria Running – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Mercuria Running specializes in form coaching, training plans, online coaching, small group workshops, and running retreats. We also offer a free running group called HTB Run Club every Wednesday at Highland Tap and Burger in Denver, CO. We work with all levels of runners from beginners through elite, providing a supportive environment for people to dream big and work towards their running (& life) goals.

Form coaching is an important part of coaching because often a small adjustment to a runner’s technique or warm-up is the difference between staying healthy and developing a running injury. Runners leave their first form session with exercises and cues they can put into practice immediately — and feel the difference.

Our training plans help runners target their training to specific goals like running a marathon, PR’ing in a specific race, completing an ultra, or qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Training intentionally with speed days, easy days, long runs, etc. usually means runners run faster and stay healthy!

Online coaching is the regular support we provide to our athletes in their training plans. We check-in with athletes multiple times a week to make sure they’re feeling healthy, training smart, and have the resources they need to achieve their goals. Sometimes illness, travel or just life can throw training off track, we’re there to help our athletes adapt to challenges and keep things in perspective.

Our small group workshops are designed to help runners develop strategies to prevent burnout, keep running fun, and stay mentally strong in races and tough workouts.

Finally, our running retreats and HTB Run Club are opportunities for runners to take time for themselves to enjoy running in beautiful places with a community of supportive runners.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I’ve thought a lot about this question as Mercuria Running has grown over the years. A successful business for me means building a supportive community, enjoying the process — not just the results, and spending lots of time outside.
