Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Mulhern.
Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have a bachelor of arts degree in portrait photography from Brooks Institute of Photography – located in Santa Barbara, CA. My career/business started in Los Angeles, CA, where I took on many clients that included: family, weddings, and events. After that exciting venture, I transitioned back to Denver, CO, to grow my business in the Denver market and be closer to loved ones. My company focuses on the essence of the art of photography based on natural light. My company focuses on quality rather than quantity. I work with clients who value the true moments that happen organically in front of my lens. My client base has grown over the years by word of mouth, existing clients, social media, and my business website.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were partial obstacles, in the beginning, to find my place in digital photography because my starting background was in print/film photography. Over the years, I scaled down the number of photos I gave to clients to less than more, because that is the tradition in print/film photography. That motto is to archive through the most selective storyline moments instead of flipping through a mass amount of generic poses. Through that important process, it has taught me to be more direct and intelligent on how I “un-pose”, my subjects. I help them be more expressive and interactive and relaxed with me and my lens.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kmulhern Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Where I thrive as an artist and business are my skills and passion for natural light/outdoor photography. I love to envolve organic environments and unique architectural settings. I specialize in capturing the true emotion between my clients. I invite my clients to be fully present with each other rather than posing for the camera. Therefore, we can capture and embrace the stage of life that they are living at the time of our photo session. This modern way of approaching the art of photography has enabled my craft to grow with my clients and with their milestones. The key element in my business is that I build sincere trust between my client base.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have a great desire to build an international client base as I will be pursuing out of the country travel in the coming years with my husband.
