Today we’d like to introduce you to Leon Duran.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from John F. Kennedy High school here in Denver, Colorado in 2006. Shortly after graduating, I enlisted in the United States Navy. I served four years on active duty where I was stationed in the middle east during Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. I served in Europe the remainder of the years before transitioning from active duty to the reserves so I can attend college. I am still currently in the Navy Reserves. I started my education while serving. I earned an Associates Degree from Excelsior College in Science. I transferred to MSU Denver, where I graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors in Science in Criminology with a Minor in Entrepreneurship. That year was when everything started to fall apart. I met a woman months before I graduated and we got engaged. Right before I graduated, we broke up and I was heartbroken, a few months later my mother died, and a few months after that I got laid off from an oil company because the price of oil dipped to the lowest its ever been. From that moment on I decided to start living life on my own terms. I started my first company, U.S. Veterans Landscape Design and after a couple of years in business, I started my second company, HoneyCutz. I still own the landscape company and I mostly focus on my supplement company HoneyCutz, I also recently created my third company InspiredbyLeon, where I help men and woman through my program R.E.A.L. (Reverse Engineer A Life).
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As an entrepreneur, you will find some of the highest highs and lowest lows. You will feel super uncomfortable and be in limbo a lot of the time, but as long as you have your WHY, then you will be able to get over the hard times. I still struggle with a lot of the issues business owners have: Growing the business and finding new ways to market.
HoneyCutz – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The company right now I am focused on is HoneyCutz. Its a post workout supplement, where I infused Raw Unfiltered Honey with Amino Acid for proper workout recovery. I use local honey and a plant based amino acid. Everything is manufactured in Denver. I am the CEO of the company. I focus on keeping the team motivated with exploring new opportunists for us to grow as a company and build our brand. I am most proud of knowing the fact that this company stepped from an idea I had years prior that I brought to life. The road was long and hard but every time I pass out product to people, I feel like its an extension of myself. The fact that I made my dreams come true after serving our country and keep things homegrown is differently something I pride myself on.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My personal definition I share with people is, ‘Living life on your terms while adding value, resources, and opportunity to others.’ My criteria I look out for is when a person is living a life of being intentional. When a person lives life with a purpose and intent then they tend to be more genuine.
