Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulette Fierle.
Paulette, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After an extensive Real Estate 38 year career in three states, I decided that I needed a change once again, this time to Colorado. Now, I also needed a new approach to this market. After some extensive research, I discovered that the people who needed to move the most were Seniors. The homes here are generally built on several levels and presented a physical challenge to the Seniors. Along with this challenge and perhaps because of it, they weren’t eating properly either. The maintenance and expenses of a large home were too much for them as well. And to top it all off, they were isolated, depressed and lonely. The thought of moving seemed to be an overwhelming undertaking even if that meant a better life. 40-50 years of accumulated “stuff” seemed to be a daunting task. So, I found my mission.
I work with a professional Company called “Caring Transitions”, they are bonded and insured and a National firm. They will come and help the Seniors sort through their possessions, move those things that they will need in their new apartment and get them happily settled. Next, they conduct an estate sale and anything that does not sell is taken to Charity. I will pay for the move, up to $1500.00, in order to make the move painless. For various legal reasons, I can only pay for the move after the house sells. Now, with the house cleared out, I am able to sell the property which provides the financial where with all for them to enjoy their retirement years with worry about repairs, maintenance, yard work, etc. Not only that, but they will be in a clean and secure environment with good food, activities and most of all social engagement. It is rewarding to work for me and a new meaningful life for Seniors.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth path. Somehow, the Seniors are reluctant to move and have the concept that they cannot afford the move, nor the monthly fee of a retirement community. They don’t realize the value of their property and how it can serve their needs here on out. One I sensed this reluctance, I decided that I would pay for the move up to $1500 to help them along. The sum usually takes care of their move and the proceeds from the estate sale and the sale of the house produces a comfort level that will sustain them for as long as they need it.
Please tell us about Resident Realty.
I specialize in Downsizing for Seniors. I do all transactions face-to-face with the Seniors for their convenience and clarity on the details. I do not expect them to transact by email, online, etc. It is not appropriate.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started this concept much sooner. The need is just extraordinary.
