Meet Sarah Jacobs of SW33T Design & Creative in Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Jacobs.

Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for graphics and design. As a child, I’d make my own board games and gather the family to play. In school, graphic design, web design and drawing kept me glued to the computer. While studying for my BFA, I learned the theory and process to bring it all together and go pro. Nowadays, my dream has come true – companies hire me to design and build ‘sweet’ websites, brands, and graphics for business owners around the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge that comes to mind started in college. I knew that I wanted to apply my design skills to building websites, but in 1999 the courses were not available. I already worked as a designer and production manager at the student newspaper, so I joined the newly formed web team. One of my professors saw me looking for opportunity, and helped to place me into an internship. So from the beginning, I learned to read the documentation for whatever it was I wanted to learn and then gain experience in implementing it.

Please tell us about SW33T Design & Creative.
Ever noticed that most marketing materials, including websites, logos and graphics, don’t have a strong brand, so they don’t connect with people, and they don’t bring in new business? Well, I design ones that do! I still design and code by hand from scratch (yes, like the 90’s), so there’s full control over how sites look and work, especially on mobile. Why? So we aren’t stuck with someone else’s template layout.

What sets me apart? I break the “rules.” Every industry has a set of them, and they ebb and flow like a river. But, decisions need to be made based on your business’ vision, values, and budget, not pop culture. Let’s come up with a real plan for your branding and marketing – one that shows people who you are and what makes you special. Not the other way around. Don’t worry. I’ve done this 600 times!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Hmm, probably getting my first computer at age 13.
