Meet Suzanne Mitchell of Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. in North Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Mitchell.

Suzanne and Harold Mitchell along with Jamie McGregor started Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. in the summer of 1993. Harold had been working for a large screen printing production facility in Boulder and was the Production Manager. Tragedy struck that business when the building burned to the ground due to an electrical fire. The owners of that facility decided to not start over, leaving employees, salespeople, and clients without a resource. Harold came home and told his wife Suzanne that he wanted to start his own screen printing company. He couldn’t do it alone, so Suzanne having a great deal of business and sales experience, agreed to help her husband start the business. They also brought on a graphic design partner, Jamie McGregor. They had a tiny screen printing press and dryer in their garage. They immediately had clients as the salespeople from Harold’s former company needed a resource for their existing clients. The business grew fast and by November of 1993, they incorporated. In November of that year, they had also outgrown their garage and moved into their first production facility in Brighton. Over the next 20 years, their business continued to grow and they continued to move into bigger facilities. In 2014, Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. moved to Hudson.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Unlike many start-up businesses, Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. had some fairy tale years of growth. Growing at a fast pace had its challenges. Many long hours and hard work was required by both Suzanne, Harold and Jamie McGregor. They brought on an additional partner, Stephanie Bink in 2001, who has also been a contributing factor in their success. However, when the economy took a turn in 2008, many businesses went out of business, including some of their long-term clients. Additionally, with the economy turning, businesses cut their budget for promotional items and apparel. Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. had to stop and reinvent their business. They figured out what made them so different from other screen printers, who they loved working with, and who loved working with them. They identified their niche clients by looking at why people appreciated them. Those clients were ideal and loyal because of how Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. served them. Suzanne has been told by clients that she is “The Little Engine that Could”, because she will never give up and will always keep moving. In 2019, Zamar Screen Printing, Inc. is thriving and has grown 128% this year alone.
