Meet Trailblazer Cindy Vieyra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Vieyra.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cindy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When you think of going to the motor vehicle department, ‘Flash’ from Zootopia may instantly come to mind! Many businesses and individuals leave motor vehicle offices with more questions than answers. Cindy Titles was created to assist auto dealerships, financial institutions, and individuals in titling motor vehicles.

My auto title processing journey began at the Denver County DMV. Three years into it, I made the conscious decision to learn as much as possible to ultimately open a service to assist businesses in preparing title documents to submit to the DMV. I worked for a new car dealership for 16 months and opened Accurate Auto Title Specialists a.k.a. Cindy Titles in 2008.

Initially, I made ‘cold calls’ and walked into dealerships in the Denver Metro area to simply introduce myself and ask if they needed assistance with their title processing or maybe help with a little ‘title issues.

In 2010, a national car rental agency contacted me when they opened up an office at DIA. I accepted the challenge as I had never worked with a rental agency. So, I prepared DMV documents for permits, titles, and plates approximately 2000 transactions in three months with the help of my DMV manager Chell Worthy who moved to and lived in California – In 2014, she created Satzfyd Reg Service in CA.

In 2012, a salvage auction contacted me regarding vehicle bonding procedure for insurance companies. I did that until 2016 when the process changed for insurance companies eliminating the need for them to bond the title.
Also that year I worked three days a week at Weld County DMV processing salvage titles. Approximately 1500 titles per month (data entry).

In 2015, CADA (Colorado Auto Dealers Association) contacted me and said that dealerships were asking about title classes. They asked if I offered that service. I took on the challenge; created a powerpoint presentation and started giving title classes with Matthew Groves, their Vice President of Legal, Regulatory & Compliance.

I now get phone calls from entities located in other states saying “I hear you are the Colorado title Guru.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I started my business in August 2008, I created a budget and after smoking for approximately 39 years, cigarettes had to go. I quit cold turkey November of that year. I was married and knew that I had options if things got tight financially. I was so excited meeting new dealership owners, processing their titles, solving title problems and learning the individual county procedures face to face. While creating a website and all that goes with running a business. It was difficult not having a set income, but I was married and things were fine financially or so I thought.

In December 2009, my now ex-husband advised me that he hadn’t paid his business taxes in two years. We filed taxes together, therefore, I was equally responsible for his business debt. Now, responsible for approximately $385k in tax debt, family debt and a mortgage in my name; chapter 13 filing was the only solution.

May 2009, I moved into an apartment with my teenage son, single daughter (working part-time) and her two children. Cindy Titles became the primary income for us. I knew this business would work, but I wasn’t making enough at the time to support all of us. I took on a job selling insurance during the day and working the titles at night. However, I couldn’t go to the counties, so, I contacted my retired manager from DMV and asked if he would be willing to work for me and take my titles to the counties. He agreed. I would be able to continue to grow my business.

During this time, my daughter was not contributing to our family unit and eventually moved her new boyfriend and my precious grandchildren in with my ex-husband. My son followed. As a result, I became estranged from my entire family; parents, siblings and other children as they embraced my ex-husband for allowing my daughter and her boyfriend to live with him. For the first time ever, I was on my life journey alone. My family would not return my calls or invite me to holidays. It is still like that today.

I continued to stay focused on my goal of making Cindy Titles successful until I had enough business to support myself and the $1900 per month towards the chapter 13, and child support, etc. paid out for my son without the additional income from selling insurance. The $1900 ended in June 2015.

I kept focused on my business.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Don’t be afraid to create your own or to say ‘yes.’

Embrace and surround yourself with positive energy. Always trust your instinct and do not be afraid to let go of what is not healthy for you.

Whatever your journey is, stay focused and don’t give up. Know your self-worth, personally and in business.

Always be grateful.

My life took a sharp unexpected financial and devastating emotional left turn early in my business. But I knew what I wanted to do. There are few people that have been with me from the beginning and I kept them close at heart and am thankful for their strength and blessings.
