Meet Trailblazer Lucy Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Rose.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started immersing myself in yoga in 2011 after I moved to Washington, DC to pursue an internship on Capitol Hill. It was during that time that I discovered yoga and started to enjoy the practice and learning more about the poses. When I moved back to Denver in 2014, it took some time, but I finally fell in love with Karma Yoga Center and a yoga practice called Bhakti Yoga. Karma was offering a yoga teacher training with Guru Saul David Raye who specializes in his own version of Bhakti, Atma Yoga so I signed up! I gained my 200-hour YTT training in January 2016 and for the next few years I taught yoga classes at the Englewood Recreation Center gaining confidence as a teacher.

Throughout this time period I had also been consuming cannabis in conjunction with my yoga practice to help calm down my constant go-go attitude and to help relieve stress and anxiety. I found that utilizing plant medicine in my yoga practice was a perfect pairing and more often than not I was pairing the two.

In April 2017 I started Greenlove Denver as a lifestyle cannabis blog to shine light on other local cannabis yoga classes and events. My hopes were to offer education to the space that was severely lacking at that time. As the months went on I eventually found a spot to host my signature Light & Lit Yoga classes. I would team up with other cannabis companies letting students try their products in class while utilizing the plant medicine to guide our inner light. This was a great way for companies to get their products in front of consumers as well as for attendees to try out new and unique products in the space.

Through Greenlove Denver I’ve also coined the term “lit yogi” which you can now find as a frequently used hashtag on Instagram. There is a community online of yogis that are now associating themselves as #lityogis. We also frequently host and sponsor various cannabis friendly yoga challenges on Instagram that further push the movement of plant medicine + yoga as well as offering education information to others.

Finally, Greenlove offers lit yogi apparel and accessories perfect for today’s modern consumer and yogi. We specialize in lavender scented eye pillows which are used in our classes during savasana.

As my business and network has grown I started a podcast “Lit & Lucid Podcast” in 2018 with my partner Jarrod Mason, as well as a digital marketing agency, Youwho Brand specializing on digital marketing needs for the cannabis space.

When I first started Greenlove Denver as a blog in 2017 I never imagined where I’d be today, but with patience and persistence things are starting to pay off. I say that action is always better than inaction and anytime you take action towards something you are passionate about you should see results as long as you are consistent and authentic with your pursuit.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road,  being an entrepreneur has its ups and downs. Some weeks you feel on top of the world and some weeks you feel like everything is crashing down. It’s important as a small business owner to stay focused on your end game objectives in 5-10 years and try not to get bogged down in the day to day roller coaster ride.

For those looking to start their own business I would say to pick something you are truly passionate about and pursue that full-heartedly. Set realistic goals and put in 110% each and every day. Even when you feel like your hard work isn’t paying off stay the course. I promise you in six months you’ll thank yourself for trying and putting in the hard work.

We’d love to hear more about Greenlove Denver.
I specialize in offering plant medicine cannabis yoga classes around the Denver Metro area, Boulder, and California. As a Bhakti Yoga instructor, I utilize the plant medicine to help bring participants into the present moment allowing oneself to become more aware of their own body and breath during their practice. I’ve found that the plant medicine helps lower inhibitions, the constant monkey mind, and to help truly connect deeper to one’s own body, mind, and soul. Greenlove Denver offers a truly mind-body experience that I assure you will enjoy once you give it a try.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
The cannabis industry is all about networking. I wouldn’t be where I am today without putting myself out there and attending any and all networking events I could find. If you are looking to enter a new industry it’s important to learn who the real players are and connect with others who can help you. It’s hard to do things by yourself so I’d encourage you to get out of your comfort zone talk with others about your plans and see where the connections lead you.
