Rising Stars: Meet Alfred Johnson Jr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfred Johnson Jr. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a photographer born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Denver, Colorado. My time with photography spans from as early as 12 years old once I started to shoot with my first iPhone. It developed into a passion after taking my first photography class in high school where we strictly worked with film cameras and conducted the entire process of developing film in the darkroom/labs. 

I have been shooting for profit since 2018 while in Nursing School and have since thing decided to turn my love it into a profession, and as of June 2021 and official business (LLC). My photography style focuses on portraits, events, and lifestyle photos, all to which I believe I can adequately document magic moments and produce quality photos for your enjoyment! 

My passion stems from my mother and her love for compiling photos over my lifetime and ensuring that although it was a great picture, you could always take “just one more picture”. 

I currently work as an ICU Registered Nurse and look forward to spending my time outside of work improving my craft and editing styles for photography. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like anything worth having, it takes a lot of hard work and determination! I have always enjoyed shooting for leisure and documenting day-to-day events. However, taking the next steps to prepare myself as a business, I needed to sacrifice a lot of time, money, and energy to work on my craft. Editing styles, YouTube tutorials, receiving input from friends and associates has made all the difference in my ability to confidently consider myself a photographer. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer. I specialize in portrait, event, and lifestyle photography. My event photography includes but not limited to; bridal showers, social gatherings, banquets, and celebratory dinners. My portrait photography primarily focuses on individual shoots such as editorial work, senior pictures, album artwork, and more. My lifestyle photography includes documenting other artists practicing their craft, day-in-the-life vlog material, and aesthetically pleasing domestic shoots. I am most proud of my event and portrait photography. This is due to my ability to capture candid moments of my subjects rather than them feeling like they must be posed and serious to create a beautiful shot. Something that sets me apart from other photographers is that I make sure my subjects are comfortable and relaxed when shooting because that is the best way to ensure the shots are natural and appealing to the eye. 

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would like to give credit to my mother for inspiring my urge to document photos and capture memories! She has always made sure that our family has photos to look back on and reminisce on. She has also been supportive in my creative endeavors of taking photography classes, helping me purchase Adobe subscriptions, and also giving her honest opinion on my work. I also would like to give credit to my close friends! They have been models for me more times than I could count, and have allowed me to work through my creativity in a reassuring and stress-free manner.
