Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Taylor.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sophia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated high school early to attend college and receive my bachelor’s degree within two years and walked magna cum laude. My degree included entrepreneurship and graphic design – although to tell you the truth, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. I come from a family of other entrepreneurs, I have always known I wanted to run my own show – I was just unclear as to what that looked like for me.
I started with exploring and finding a way to serve first. My overarching goal has always been to make the world a better place. Leaving your footprint in such a way, that it is left better than how we came into it. I traveled to Kolkata India and lived there for three months while I helped women and children get out of sex trafficking. We worked on art, therapy, and new trades to make an income. This was quite the experience to say the least, on more than one level. After leaving India, I backpacked through Europe with my brother and came back to Colorado with a whole new set of eyes.
Little did I know – all of these experiences would help me form The Design House – my own company that I love and get to work daily. It started with my basic skills as a graphic designer, providing logos and branding to start-up companies. We have continued to innovate and develop what we offer to find more ways to serve customers and our communities. We eventually added to building websites and managing social media. This has even allowed for my own personal impact, being able to provide micro influencing of my own on Instagram with the handle @sophiamarietaylor
We now work on projects from coast to coast – many non-profit organizations like the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation for Epilepsy and Stonecroft. We work with major companies like A Taste of Colorado, Deb Sheppard, Gilbert Jamal Smith from The Ultimate Fighter and more. We get to pick and choose the projects we have the desire to create – like with Comfort in their Journey and developing an online Database for caretakers of those with Alzheimer’s.
We are here to make a difference in our world, anyway, we can. Even if that’s only just changing one world for another entrepreneur. We have been able to bring on more and more team members while continuing to serve the great causes and companies we believe in.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha (yes, I am literally laughing) – it has not been a smooth road, and to be honest, I am not sure if it is supposed to be. If there’s one thing I learned from all of my ups and downs – it’s that there’s beauty in the struggle. The lessons are held in the most challenging parts of it. If you embrace it – you can come out on top, and better than before.
For a long time, I was a one-woman show, being the yes-man to everything and everyone. I continuously overloaded my plate while still trying to run the business. There have been times I doubted this was the right path for me. Maybe I was meant to work for someone else, maybe I wasn’t crafted to be a designer. There have been times where my creativity has been pushed to its limits and I questioned if I was ever going to find the answer.
We may never know what our limits are until we get there. Although sometimes it’s when we find our limits, that we also find the methods of which to push outside of them and conquer the end goal.
Please tell us about The Design House.
The Design House handcrafts custom design for businesses and non-profit organizations.
We elevate and create personalized brands, posters, business cards, logos, websites, and social media all through design and marketing. We help take care of a company’s overall look and online presence. We benefit organizations to represent themselves in the way they desire most and serve busy entrepreneurs by having limitless options to have us take care of it all for them.
We are most proud of the projects we get to take on, as we truly believe the projects we get to embrace are ones that help better our world. We take on projects, clients and businesses we are passionate about.
We have a team filled with heartfelt individuals whose desire is to serve in ways that work best for that customer, under their circumstances. We enjoy being able to provide that and craft based on their needs.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over – I would do most of it the same. All of the decisions, I have based on the thinking I can do it all on my own. With that, I have learned great limits about myself, the business and what I enjoy and what I don’t. I am forever grateful for what I learned. I wouldn’t change a thing, other than to have the knowledge I do now – to have created a better game plan and bringing on the right people from the beginning.
