Meet Stoke Lucero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stoke Lucero.

Stoke, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been a natural-born artist. I was always drawing or doing Commission work for someone. I started getting serious in 2006 when I was at a turning point in life. I started to get heavily tattooed and found my self hanging around tattoo shops. I never did a traditional tattoo apprenticeship, but learned by knowledge passed down through multiple artists, drawing for years, seminars as well as tattooing fake skin. In 2009 I got my foot in the door and started tattooing in a local shop.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I faced many obstacles, but I’ve become a better person because of it. The struggle for me was putting time into this craft. It takes many years, and at times I wanted to give up. I jumped shop to shop trying to find a perfect match. That’s when I realized tattooing isn’t something you can be proficient at in four years it took me over ten years to finally feel like I got a foothold.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Nocturnal Tattoo was established in 2013 by my business partner Ray Jimenez and my self. We specialize in everything from traditional to realism. We continue to grow every year by doing conventions across the country from LA to New York. I’m most proud of the team and artists that have stuck by our side. We opened our second location in 2017. I feel we have a twist on the industry bringing our own style and new ideas constantly and consistently.

What were you like growing up?
I consider myself a people’s person, a little wild. I like to make others laugh. Growing up I was drawn to martial arts an street art like graffiti. I lived all over the city traveled a lot, but Denver is home.
