Meet Colleen Meheen of Gypsy Poetry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Meheen.

Colleen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a passionate artist of life, and hunter of all things beautiful… I traveled and lived internationally straight out of high-school. My college education was life in the world! It was tasting, touching, dancing and indulging in the variety of stories each individual had to tell. From Africa and across Western Europe, I fell in love with the poetry of life!

Working to master the fine arts, I quickly expanded into a stint studying fashion design and illustration at the London College of Fashion. I then adventured head first into the health and beauty genres, obtaining my personal training license through the ISSA, and my esthetics license through the College of International Esthetics. Next, I opened my first business and created a holistic day spa in the heart of the Rockies, of which I owned and operated for five years. I am now a bridal stylist, coordinator and couture designer of custom bridal wear. I came to passionately love the romantic and free-spirited Bohemian Styled looks that many brides requested. It is from that love affair that I opened “Gypsy Poetry” A Beauty & Bridal Bungalow, for I know that a romantic, gypsy spirit, in all her glory, is just that… Living Poetry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have always been that person that believes everything holds potential for greatness, for benefit, for growth. I have had challenges, yes, but they have served me as stepping stones, ideally positioned along my journey of life, to create higher ideals, greater vision and more collaborative opportunities that have created such splendid satisfaction.

Smooth roads are wonderful, but so are windy and rocky ones, as they demand that your vision and techniques must adjust to accommodate the variegated terrain. This has served me very well in my past, and I honor the challenges as they come.

Gypsy Poetry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty has morphed and adjusted over time, very similar to me as an individual! As I started, I had this deep and honest desire to bring as much beauty, peace and joy as I could create in a moment. This core desire has not changed, but it has grown in expression to create Gypsy Poetry, as a brand specializing in designing and styling richly rustic, deeply romantic events, weddings and interiors. We are known specifically for our “Bohemian-Nouveau” style, expressing a free-spirited, sensual, elegant and rustic group of themes. Thriving in the high Rockies of Colorado allows ample landscapes and environments to really express these ideas with ease.

I am most proud of the core intent of my brand, in that we create a moment of honest, stunning beauty and personal celebration, with the goal of transitioning those themes straight into a lifestyle at home. Additionally, every product and service is 100% cruelty-free and sustainable. This means everyone wins!!!

I believe what sets Gypsy Poetry apart from other design brands, is that we not only design the event, we also offer bespoke paper gifts, the entire stationary suite, using custom, fine-art products. I custom design wedding gowns, as well as curate very specific gowns for selective brides. My team and I do all the hair and makeup for the group, as well as provide luxury styling products for photographers to tell a fantastic story! We really provide all the “beauty” elements in the design story across the full spectrum of a couples story.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I always have to offer a shout out to my mother and my husband, as my two greatest cheerleaders in life! Somehow, these two magnificent humans have found an unyielding reservoir of belief that I can do anything and everything I ever dream up.

When the delays, challenges and learning curves would hit home, they were always first in line to encourage me, and remind me of all the successes I had created in the past. They have provided many essential bridges for me to cross over when I was building this brand, and I will forever praise their unconditional love for me.
