Meet Rebecca Dollard of The Motherhood Mentor in Greeley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Dollard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The Motherhood Mentor as a business began at the beginning of this year, but really this has been forming ever since I became a mom and even before. This business has truly been made through my story and the story of the moms I see all around me – my friends, my mentors, the moms at school, and even the moms I’ve met online through this journey.

When I became a mom, I had started to see that I wanted something better for my daughter. I was struggling deeply with past traumas and new fears. I walked through anxiety, depression, and such low self-confidence. I was surviving, at first for my daughter, and then for me. Through it all, I was incredibly supported and loved by so many. I didn’t struggle alone or in shame and I think that community, family, and support around me is what made me able to find myself and begin to heal. I started to find out who I was as a mother, and then as a woman. I started to grow and become the woman I wanted to be, which ended up making me the mom I wanted to be. The more I loved, healed, and cared for ME, the better I was showing up for the people who mattered most to me, my husband and daughter and then son. It was a snowball effect. The more and more I learned and applied the coaching, the books, the podcasts, the habits – the more I grew. The more I surrounded myself with people who empowered and supported me and became vulnerable, the more I thrived.

Life was still hard. We had many uphill battles, but now I felt prepared to fight them. Finally, it snowballed into a place where I realized that I was in a place to help other moms on this journey. I kept searching for the right program I could jump into to help with, but nothing looked like what I knew moms wanted and needed. I couldn’t find the community with the tools and the support. I couldn’t find personal growth without guilt that actually helped you APPLY and personalize what you were learning. The connections and community everyone acknowledges you need as a parent, but that most don’t have.

So, I took what felt like a small step toward my passions and hired a mentor (Ashley McDonald) to help me navigate the how and the what behind my why. What I thought was a small step and big investment, ended up being a giant leap and the catalyst to not only my business but also my personal life becoming even more than I could have dreamed. It turns out that the scary leap into the unknown is what actually creates the change and proof you are looking for. It took me stepping into this new role, to fully know and love parts of me I hadn’t yet acknowledged or grown. I was stronger than I ever dreamed, and it took this big risk and putting myself out there to see that. I invested in myself and it is still the most valuable investment I have made and continue to make.

My business story is founded on the power of a mentor and support. In fact, it’s also one of the reasons I chose ‘The Motherhood Mentor’ as my business name – because mentorship is the foundation of what I do. I had the strongest why, just like the moms I work with now, but I didn’t see a clear path to get there. My mentor guided me through that and helped me see the next steps while supporting me as I wobbled my way into this dream. I see a mentor as someone right next to you in the arena helping guide you.

Moms need someone in their corner supporting and helping them navigate the constant highs and lows of parenting and life.

I knew that when a mom is supported when she knows who she is and when she has safe places to grow without guilt while being supported in all her strengths and struggles, she will be the mom she’s always wanted to be. I saw in my life how when I became the woman I wanted to be, everything else stopped feeling so overwhelming. Instead of drowning, I learned to surf on the waves of life. I learned that the waves of life weren’t going to stop. I could either drown or learn how to swim and surf. So many moms are drowning right now and others are barely treading water. They need someone to come alongside them and help them through these big waves. She needs to find strategies to help her not just barely survive, but maybe even enjoy this life and learn to surf. Moms are incredible. Any other “job” has training and support and co-workers. Moms are thrown books, experts, and judgment at their face and then expected to thrive. We need tools to not only navigate parenting but the all encompassing LIFE that consumes you as a mom.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a completely bumpy uphill road, and also totally worth it. I launched and began building the business in January after several months of gaining clarity and inspiration for what this business would look like. I was set to have my first program launch in May. Learning how to show up in a whole new capacity of vulnerability on social media and sharing my story took growing my confidence and letting my fear of people pleasing die off as I began to own my strengths and share my story openly and truly be seen fully for the first time. I had no idea the emotional rollercoaster it would be. Growth is almost never comfortable. A tenacity in me that I didn’t know existed started to show through. I was uncomfortable as I faced obstacles I haven’t been used to like a traditional job, work hours since I haven’t done that before, marketing, money strategy, program creation, media and content creation, email campaigns- all of it at once was a lot to take on. I started from scratch and it’s taken a new strength in me to keep going no matter the lies in my head that might tell me it’s taking too long or that it will never work or that I’m not good enough. Having the most supportive husband, family, friends and mentor to support me through it has been everything, and it has solidified why moms needed this, because I need it.

I knew that on the other side of this growth and discomfort was the woman and the life I want. I was still figuring out how to work when the kids were in school and then the schools closed and 2020 came in like a wrecking ball. I have stumbled through this. I have cried and gotten so frustrated. But all along I’ve given myself the freedom to fail. To do imperfect work that makes me proud. I know that as I show up in who I am, both in my struggles and strengths while honoring my needs and getting the help and support along the way, I can lead moms to follow the same. I don’t think moms need to see me doing this perfectly. I had two moms sign up for that first program in the midst of chaos of COVID and those two gals made every moment of struggle, discomfort, and doubts worth it. Each mom who sends me a message, comments on a post, each mom who joins the free fb group or this membership – makes this worth it. I’m not after the masses. I’m after empowering the one mom. I know that If I can encourage, help, give grace or empathy, or help one mom find a tool that changes HER life, that change will ripple into her family, her friends, and community. I know there will be more bumps and hard things, and I will navigate them the same way. Over and Over.

Hard seasons are here and new hard seasons may follow but I know I have the confidence, tools, and support to navigate them when they do, and the fact that there are moms out there drowning in this season, waiting for someone to support and empower them in their uniqueness is the fuel that drives my business forward through whatever obstacle I face. From the beginning, I believed that I would figure it out, I would fail forward and accept every feedback, support, and help that I could find. I don’t do this work alone. Not only do I have a personal net of people, but I’ve begun to create work support, my mentor, a mastermind, and other incredible entrepreneurs who can support me when I need it and I need it often. I don’t do this alone. Figuring out how to work and continue to show up well for my family and myself has been hard, but worth it. Helping moms has fueled me and has given me a passion and outlet during this hard time as well. It required me to stay intentional and focused on what truly matters and how to show up well for it. It has never been easy and always worth it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Motherhood Mentor story. Tell us more about the business.
The Motherhood mentor is based off of three pillars: growth without guilt, community through connection, and motherhood with mentorship. Connection and community is something that many moms are struggling to find. Moms are taking care of SO MUCH. They care for everyone and everything and I wanted to create a place to care for THEM. A place where their needs, wants, struggles, and strengths could be met with empathy, understanding, but also help them create a grace covered plan to keep moving forward and get unstuck.

The Motherhood Membership is a group for moms to grow through connection. This online membership includes one call a week to give moms the opportunity to process and be supported through their daily lives. Two workshops and two connection calls where moms not only learn life-changing tools, personal development, and growth but they have a mentor to walk them through and support them in the season they are walking through. Workshops have a lesson that applies to what moms currently need help with including worksheets and printables that go along with the material and are not only practical but personal. The connection calls are a chance for moms to get mentored one-on-one in a group setting and have a place to process and work through current struggles and get support. Moms can add on one-on-one calls if they need more support during a month or week.

I also offer an 8 week one-on-one mentorship program that gives moms a deep dive into finding who they are again and how to care for themselves in a way that will completely change how they show up for their life. In this 8 week program I walk moms through the 6 areas of self- body, mind, heart, identity/soul, connections, and purpose. This program is for the mom who wants to find herself again. She wants to figure out who she is and grow into who she wants to become so that she can show up in life fully confident and fulfilled able to weather the storms. We walk through not only self, but how you relate to others, boundaries, environment and how we grow and change things in a way that isn’t overwhelming. Each week moms have a one-on-one call and have email support as well. Moms who are interested can book a free 30min clarity call to help her decide if it would be a good fit and to answer any questions or concerns she has.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry of mentorship, coaching, and groups like this greatly expanding over the next few years. I think many people are beginning to realize that we need more tools and support to be mentally and emotionally healthy. There is so much dysfunction in our world that starts, and ends when we see individuals start to heal. When you look at any issue- it starts with people, it starts with being emotionally and mentaly capable and healthy and when that lacks we see dysfunction not just on a small scale, but on a global scale. I’ve seen that in this year, people need this. We need to start prioritizing our mental and emotional health, not just when it reaches illness, but before and preventative

The personal development world has been expanding, but truly I believe if each person had a mentor or coach or therapist at times, we would see our world completely shift. We were hardwired for support, connection, and community. We have started to see science start to back up what religion and our heroes and leaders have been telling us since the beginning, we have the power to change our lives and our world.. We have the capability to grow and expand and to heal. It takes intention and support and I get so excited when I think of a future when moms and kids and EVERY person has the support of someone to walk through life. I know that when I work with one mom and help her, that she can help her kids, her significant other, her larger family unit, her community. When you bring someone back to their inherent worth and identity, the ripples of change only expand. I see mentorship and support groups and therapeutic services becoming a normal of HEALTH. Not just a cry out in crisis or trauma, but to truly heal souls in our daily lives.
