Meet Natalie Henley of Volume Nine in South Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Henley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Natalie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from college in 2007, right into the recession. I know that the prospect of another recession around the corner has made a lot of people frightened, but I felt like that experience really gave me a lot of the qualities I needed to succeed in my career path.

With a Political Science Degree (aka basically useless degree) and very little job experience, I really had to start from the bottom and work my way up. I joined a campaign the summer after graduating – the campaign literally hired everyone who applied, since the hours were sunup to sundown, six days a week, going door to door in the heat of summer. It also only paid a couple of hundred bucks a week. However, I took the job seriously (where many didn’t) and worked hard.

My dedication to the job was noticed by the campaign manager, who then hired me for his mailing company. There I got much better hours (8-6) in an air-conditioned warehouse stuffing envelopes for minimum wage (so an upgrade in every way). Again, I worked really hard and focused on doing the best possible job for him. Then when one of his friends was hiring in DC for a world-class PR agency, he made a warm referral into a company that was almost impossible to get hired at.

My career path continued on in much the same way until fast-forward to today, where I am not CEO & part-owner of the Digital Marketing agency I was hired at seven years ago.

In every stage of the way, a few values have really driven me: (1) Work Hard (2) Gratitude (3) Loyalty.

Recently, we’ve started a new movement in Colorado to engage other local agencies to help our amazing Small Business community. We’ve had an overwhelming response with 30 local agencies signing up to adopt a huge range of small businesses who have been affected by COVID-19. This has been really such a rewarding experience and so exciting to see so many companies get involved: https://www.adoptashop.co/

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the biggest obstacles/challenges I’ve overcome in my career:

– Working for wages that put us below the poverty line when I lived in Washington, DC.

– Making a move to Denver 11 years ago (without a job or a place to live) and having to build up a career & network here.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Volume Nine – what should we know?
We are a Digital Marketing agency, and we specialize in helping companies build brand, drive traffic and make sales online.

There’s a few things we’re really proud of:

– Our clients – we’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing brands (Fortune 500s, big Denver companies, etc.)
– Our extremely unique company structure that allows us to solve a lot of problems for our clients.
– Our team – we have some of the top experts in the industry.

We’ve also done some big thought leadership in the past year that has gotten a lot of traction:

(1) We coined the phrase Lifestyle Digital Marketing – https://www.v9digital.com/resources/guides/guide-to-lifestyle-marketing/

(2) We developed a comprehensive Social Media Engagement process & checklist – https://www.v9digital.com/resources/guides/social-media-engagement/

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
– Drive – Being self-driven to do a great job, stay resilient, stay loyal & work hard.
