Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Lowry.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Becoming a photographer was unexpected.
I went to college in Chicago to pursue a degree in Acting and Business. After college, I began working behind the scenes at a talent agency in Chicago and I began questioning if that was what I wanted to pursue. One day, I was working at my previous comedy professor’s comedy club and she asked if I wanted her old film camera. I said yes. With zero hesitation, zero clue what I had just said yes to, and zero-zero idea that was the yes that would change my entire life.
It sounds dramatic, but it kind of was. After that a roll of film because my best friend. It went everywhere with me as I began exploring the world and myself. With each frame, my passion for photography grew stronger and I knew this is what I was meant to do.
COVID hit and a lot of leads of future endeavors fizzled out as the world froze. I was stuck and wanted more. Like most modern love stories, the internet led me to work for the largest and most trusted family and school photography company in the country. I photographed in the preschool department, sports, senior, candids, events, yearbooks, banquets, and proms, I even made ID cards for a day. Indoor, outdoor, one light, five lights, no lights. The list could go on and on. Every day I had a camera in my hand, photographing in a different environment and it took my understanding of photography to the next level. In a little over a year, I was a professional photographer.
Now, after almost a decade in Chicago, I have made the move back to Denver and I am so thrilled to have a studio space to provide connection and creativity through portraits in this wonderful city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any path, my journey as a photographer was not a particularly smooth one. I’m still dealing with bumps in the road! But knowing photography is going to be in my life forever, no matter what shape or form, comforts me and motivates me to keep going.
Trusting myself has honestly been one of my biggest struggles. It’s so easy to let self-doubt and comparison dictate your thoughts and actions, but I came to a point where I was like it’s now or never. I’ve taken the leap of faith and I’m happy to report I haven’t looked back yet.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a portrait photographer, specializing in studio portraits. I transitioned from landscape and travel photography to portrait photography when I began working for a national family and school photography company where I was introduced to the world of studio photography.
I found something really special about photographing portraits in the studio. The studio creates a safe space for clients to feel comfortable and confident which creates a deeper connection that allows walls and inhibitions to come down. No distractions, no BS, just connecting and creating authentic, timeless portraits.
Something that sets me apart is my ability to create a unique portrait experience for everybody. All of my portrait sessions are created in collaboration with you, so your portrait experience is tailored to your style and your vision.
With my history in the hospitality industry, I not only want my clients to have amazing portraits to cherish for years to come, but I want you to have an amazing time doing so! Put your favorite playlist on the speakers, touch up your makeup, let the weight of the world drop off your shoulders, and enjoy capturing your authentic self.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I sought out adventure and the idea of discovering new places inspired me from a young age so I knew I was going to travel the world. And I did. I solo traveled to 12 countries across five continents and little did I know that would lead me to the photographer I am today.
