Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Murdock.
Hi Jack, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My thought process behind starting CO Springs Eats was originally to just have an Instagram page to share food in Colorado Springs with my close friends. However, over time it gained followers and then COVID-19 hit. I saw how many restaurants were struggling all over the country. I knew with my large following and my influence from being a member of Colorado College located in the heart of Colorado Springs that I could make a difference. I used different marketing techniques to grow my following even more. I then began to reach out to restaurants asking them for pictures of their food, drinks, and their delivery options during the pandemic. I began posting these pictures and slowly helped restaurants in Colorado Springs get more customers. Today, I am now starting marketing campaigns for multiple restaurants in the Colorado Springs area. I am specifically trying to bring in more Colorado College students into restaurants lacking a younger crowd in which they are seeking. I also am attending restaurant openings and visits to help promote menu items to the greater Colorado Springs community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have without a doubt had struggles with CO Springs Eats. Firstly, I am a college student so I am not in Colorado during the summer. It has been challenging keeping our following when we do not post as much content. It also makes it difficult to stay in touch with restaurants and ultimately help market their menu and story.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about CO Springs Eats?
Watching restaurants gain more customers by simply posting pictures of their cuisine and advertising their deals is very exciting. This aspect of owning a food marketing Instagram is by far the most exciting as you get to see how you can make a difference on people’s lives. I have learned many lessons along the way such as perseverance and staying committed. Many restaurants that I had wished to help would not respond to messages for months. It was also difficult gaining followers at times as I learned how important it is to constantly be posting content to keep your followers engaged. What I am most excited about in the near future is bringing the Colorado College community closer with the downtown Colorado Springs community. Special deals on food and drinks at local restaurants for students is the goal in the upcoming months.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In my life thus far I have not taken to many risks. However, the initial answer I have to this question was deciding to attend college across to country here in Colorado. I am born and raised in Connecticut. I wanted a unique college experience and I wanted to get outside of my comfort zone. The transition to the altitude, constantly changing climate, and lack of bagel shops has no doubt been a different way of living! The risk of not liking to Colorado lifestyle and being far from home was scary. Although, I could not be more happy about my decision and highly recommend for everyone in their life to live away from home if they have the opportunity. I have learned so much from meeting new people with different views on life.
