Community Highlights: Meet Megan Prejzner of Hackett Brand Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Prejzner.

Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
This is a story that I love to tell because it involves bungee jumping in New Zealand!

I am an award-winning CEO, entrepreneur, and brand strategist, who has worked with some of the worlds leading brands including everyone from Fortune 50 companies to global thought leaders to independent startups across nearly two dozen industries. I started my career in marketing moving from sports marketing to agency to corporate marketing and my career evolved from solely public relations to include almost every facet of marketing and ultimately an executive role within corporate.

On a trip to New Zealand, we took a bungee jumping excursion on a whim (I am terrified of heights) and it was literally after that moment that I knew I would go home and change up my career. I took a leap of faith, bet on myself, and started Hackett Brand Consulting, a branding consultancy that I’ve led since 2018.

Now, in my sixth year of business, I’ve expanded our business to include local, a small. business marketing agency designed to help local businesses catapult their growth, and MegPrez.com, where I help others show up for themselves, rewrite their story, build an unforgettable brand and create a life they love!

Today, I am grateful to draw upon my experience of creating my path through every stage of life -from being the first in my family to go to college, to flipping a coin to choose my major and ultimately becoming a corporate executive, to a bungee jumping adventure that led me to start my own business as I expand my role as a CEO, Brand Builder, Entrepreneur, and Speaker.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve learned that the silly memes about entrepreneurship (and life) are all so true, and at the same time, that it’s all about perspective.

The short answer is no, it has not all been smooth and I’d be lying if I pretended it was all easy. About a year ago I decided to let go of about 50% of our revenue from clients that were not fit for a business by either not renewing contracts or breaking our contracts. This was tough because that impacts growth, hiring, and more.

As I make difficult decisions and face struggles, I keep the perspective that there is so much more to be grateful for and to embrace the positivity of than wallowing in the negative. For the clients we had to let go of, we have found ourselves working with partners who are incredible people and partners. A lot of them are local to Colorado, our home, and where we love, and I LOVE growing businesses that are right here in our community!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
