Community Highlights: Meet Meghan Grove of Grove Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Grove.

Hi Meghan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in the Hudson Valley, NY, in a home shaped by both challenge and strength. My parents divorced when I was young, and my mother, determined to keep us cared for, worked five jobs at one point to support my two brothers and me. I watched her earn her college degree when I was six and, decades later, return for her master’s. Her determination and resilience taught me early that grit and tenderness can coexist.

Growing up in a community rich with diverse experiences taught me to stay curious. I also experienced a trauma at thirteen, which gave me a firsthand understanding of the courage it takes to ask for help and the quiet, often slow ways healing begins. Those early lessons laid the foundation for the work I do today.

After high school, I moved to Florida for college, met my incredible husband, and began a decade-long career in social work supporting families through crisis and transition. In 2011, we moved to Colorado, and I stepped away from the field to raise our two boys, now 14 and 17. Parenting softened me and strengthened me, giving me a front-row seat to relationships, attachments, and the small moments that shape us.

By 2016, I felt a pull back into the helping professions. I returned for my master’s and stepped into the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. Grove Counseling Services grew from every chapter of my life—a space where honesty is welcome, curiosity leads the work, and judgment has no seat at the table.

Today, my practice brings it all together—my roots, personal history, years in social work, life as a parent, and the therapist I continue to become.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not exactly. Moving across states without a support system, stepping away from my career to raise my boys, and returning to grad school later in life brought plenty of moments of self-doubt. Could I really return to this work and build something of my own?

Parenting stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. It pushed me to grow, adapt, and uncover strengths I didn’t know I had, all while guiding my boys and shaping a home where they could thrive. Running my own practice added another layer—juggling clients, family, and building a business as a new therapist during a global pandemic was intense. Along the way, I’ve learned to navigate uncertainty, heightened anxiety, and social and political unrest with my family and my clients.

Those challenges continue to shape me. They teach acceptance, empathy, perspective, and perseverance. They remind me why I do this work and guide me in creating Grove Counseling Services as a space where people can explore, heal, and grow without judgment.

Looking back, the bumps along the way weren’t setbacks—they’re chapters in the journey that brought me here and continue to guide the work I do today.

We’ve been impressed with Grove Counseling Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What sets this practice apart is the approach: systemic-based treatment modalities paired with empathy, curiosity, and compassion. Clients are guided to understand themselves and their relationships in new ways while receiving practical tools for meaningful, lasting change.

Grove Counseling Services is designed to help clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether beginning therapy, navigating a major life transition, or pursuing personal growth, the focus is on providing insight and strategies that help you move forward with authenticity, clarity, and confidence.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
To me, risk is about stepping into the unknown with intention, even when it feels messy or uncertain. My childhood was full of that kind of recklessness—testing boundaries, navigating uncertainty, and learning to survive in a world that didn’t always feel safe. Those experiences taught me that growth often comes from leaning into discomfort rather than avoiding it.

As an adult, the risks have been big and visible: moving across states, stepping away from a career to focus on my family, returning to grad school as an older learner, and launching Grove Counseling Services. Each choice carried doubt, but also reinforced my own determination and resilience—lessons I continue to bring into my work, walking alongside my clients as they step into the unknown chapters of their unique stories.
