Conversations with Dj Acoff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Acoff.

Hi Dj, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born October 27, 1994 and raised in Bessemer, AL. I was one of twenty-one children. My father was murdered when I was five years old, so from a young age, I knew I wanted better for myself. Growing up, I was always into music and involved in music at my church, much like many people from small southern towns. Upon graduating high school, I attended Alabama State University in Montgomery. It was during this time that my family was facing hard times which caused me to move closer to home and further my education at Stillman University. While at Stillman University, he received a refund check of $4K from Alabama State on accident but viewed it as an opportunity to change my situation. I gave half the money to my mother and used the other half to invest in DJ equipment because I was already thinking about Djing and I knew it would be an easy way to make some money. Around this same time, I started Riche Posse with a few of my friends as a promotion group and we began throwing parties across Alabama, the series was titled “Project Acoff”. Following my success in Alabama, I decided to move to ATL and attended Clark Atlanta University to expand my network and to continue to build my brand.

While in Atlanta, my name and brand began to grow rapidly and I even got into acting and landed a role in XXl: O’Day produced by Brandon Holland, and the YouTube series Barry Tales produced by Kartoon Management. I eventually decided to move to Florida and began working frequently in Miami, Tampa, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. While in Florida, I transitioned from a traditional Dj to more of a super producer. I began growing out my label Riche Posse and signed my first artist in 2016/2017. In 2020, I became the official DJ for KShiday of 1017 & Atlantic Records. I have worked with numerous artists over the years including K Camp, Webbie, Shy Glizzy, Rayy Dubb, Famous Kid Brick, Bambino Gold(RIP), TC Gambino, TSL Fetti, Landlord Lo, Lyrik, TLE Cinco and many more. I also have been afforded the opportunity to host parties for NFL Players such Andre Kates of the Baltimore Ravens, Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins, Jameis Winston of the New Orleans Saints and Le’Veon Bell of the New York Jets. I look forward to working with many more artists in the future and will become one of the biggest super producers/Dj/Record label executives in the game.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been easy and at times, I’ve wanted to give up but always realize if you keep pushing everything you work towards will eventually happen.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Disc jockey, record executive, record producer, actor and media personality. I’m different than the traditional dj and more like Dj Khaled or Dj Drama. I recently released my first album Hometown Heroes which can be found on all streaming platforms. I believe my drive is what sets me apart from others, I’m always working and honestly don’t feel right when I’m not working.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the industry I’m in growing more and more over the next 5-10 years, hiphop continues to expand and reach new levels as artists are becoming more creative and more and more sub-genres are being created much like Rock. Hiphop is in a great place and I hope to bring it to an entirely other level and inspire the next generation.
