Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Rinka.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Allie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started photography back when I was attending college. Like most, I was photographing family and friends. My love for photography grew because I saw the world differently. I carefully watched nature, looked closely at smaller details and marveled over the beads on a dress. Photography allowed me to be creative and explore beyond an office.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride, mostly because you have to motivate yourself. You have to find your style, what works for you and build a portfolio. At the beginning of my journey, I struggled mainly how to be different from the rest. It is a road in which you will struggle and not everyone will have answers for you. You have to study, observe, and critique your own work to get better.
My advice is, be you! Implement what you love in your work, stop trying to be like so and so because you’re gonna have to work much harder. Being something you’re not is draining and your passion won’t become your life’s work.
Love what you do! I’m always thinking of new projects or how to do things differently. Don’t be afraid of progress!
And keep learning!
What should we know about Allie & John Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m what our industry likes to call a hybrid photographer. I use both photographic film and digital cameras to achieve my light and airy look. My husband is usually my second who also uses both formats. We specialize in weddings & branding for entrepreneurs.
What we’re most proud of is being able to document different walks of life. We encounter so many couples with different stories, hardship, and success. Our job allows us to be in awe of their journeys and honored that they have chosen us to be apart of their wedding day.
What sets us apart is our personalities and the way we work. John & I are both are old souls but we love adventure. We love to capture work that is true to our clients and affirm them that even though we really don’t know them, we want the best for them!
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I’ve always been attracted to creating, performing, and storytelling. I have my grandmother to thank for that. My grandmother always had side hustles, one I distinctly remember is being a seamstress. She was a master at it! I helped her at times to sew buttons on or un-hem pants and robes for the church choir, it was a love and hate relationship with sewing.
My grandmother always encouraged me to imagine, create and most of all to be me. But she also showed me how to be a hard worker, passionate, and caring.
