Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Nicole Berger.
Allison Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Laurel, Maryland. My love for sewing sparked at a very young age as I witnessed my grandmother’s construction of beautiful pieces. As a child, my grandmother would always do hand-embroidery and paint beautiful things reflective of nature like flowers, butterflies, and animals. I still have many hand-embroidered and painted quilts that were hand-sewn by her. I have the fondest memories of painting with my grandma; I learned so much from her and I can credit my aesthetic to her. Even though she is not with us anymore, she will always be with me in spirit and live through my designs.
I displayed a passion for design at an early age of eight when I learned to use my grandmother’s sewing machine. Design show, Project Runway, further fueled my creativity. My grandmother bought my first sewing machine for Christmas at 12 years-old. As I grew, so did my passion for art and construction. I found pleasure in transforming my sketches and two-dimensional patterns into tangible clothing.
I worked and interned with a few different sewing/design studios throughout high school and college and secured a B.S. in Apparel and Merchandising/Apparel Design and Production from Colorado State University. In 2017, I launched the namesake line, Allison Nicole Designs. Inspired by the female figure, soft and flowing fabrics, and florals, Allison Nicole Designs creates ethereal gowns and custom pieces for every woman and every occasion.
I believe that I got to where I am today with passion, patience, and hard work.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but nothing ever is completely smooth. Not everything will go your way, or go as planned, but we have to be ready and willing to adapt.
My biggest obstacle would be finding good and talented people that I can trust with similar values in fashion and quality workmanship to join our team.
What should we know about Allison Nicole Designs? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Inspired by the female figure, soft and flowing fabrics and florals, Allison Nicole Designs creates ethereal gowns and custom pieces for every woman and every occasion.
Beautiful designs and services for all shapes and sizes, from custom to alterations.
All designs from collections are for sale. Everything is customizable. They are made-to-order, and the price includes custom fit. (All you have to do is input a few of your measurements.)
You can rent any gown for $150 and we will take care of the dry-cleaning afterwards. (All gowns for rent are samples, and sizes are limited.)
We also create custom apparel, which means we will create whatever your heart desires, and it will fit you perfectly.
Lastly, we offer professional alteration services, as well as any of your sewing needs.
For example, we make memory bears for clients that request them. They are teddy bears made from the clothing of their loved ones that have passed.
I am most proud of our quality workmanship, customer service, and the love and care that we put into each piece.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important piece of advice I could give to a young woman just starting her career is to remember that everything happens for a reason, and never give up on your passion.
