Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Nawrocki.
Ashlee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wear Love was birthed one late night in a Nepalese Red Light District in 2016 when I met my destiny. I was encountered with the horrific reality that 27 million worldwide are enslaved when I was met eye to eye a girl no older than eight who was being trafficked. Her Hindi name translating to without darkness and her story that would haunt me was the catalyst to me desiring to create a movement or to stir a conversation to bring light to something that has been kept in darkness too long, human trafficking. Wear Love, Colorado’s first non-profit fashion truck is a mobile marketplace of beautiful creations with even more beautiful redemption stories. We got started on the hope that women in Denver would accept our invitation to wear out love and purpose and become partners in anti-crime with us!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I strongly believe no journey is linear. Wear Love has been a prayer and a dream for the past three years, 1.5 of those actually existing. Like I brought up before we are the first non-profit fashion truck meaning there is no manual. We are in a way writing and editing our own rule book. Other than the obvious struggles of getting our 501C3 and learning other Denver regulations, our struggle has been learning that ending a global crisis is not done alone. I so encourage any girl or anyone out there who will listen that if you have a dream and your dream involves helping others do it! We all were created for such a higher purpose. I genuinely believe a big part of Wear Love’s success is coming from the fact that others too want to do good and help be a part of ending human trafficking that we are gaining much faster leverage then I could ever do on my own. And from that, I am truly humbled. But sis it’s going to be hard work, many hours, ive put my literal blood, sweat, and tears into this brand, but history isn’t going to write its self and we were created for such a time as this! Get to work and let’s make a difference. If I can start this, then you can too! Go, queens go!
What should we know about Wear Love Clothing? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Wear Love essentially is a jewelry boutique run out of a restored 1965 Dalton trailer. I love the fact that our 10 by 10 walls were restored and the products we showcase within them are creating redemption stories we may not know the impact of yet. Each brand we carry is helping women in nine different countries know freedom. We work with artisan groups that are helping employee women survivors of trafficking, women in at-risk situations, single mamas, and we are helping women rise above poverty by working with fair wage brands. Wear Love strongly believes social injustices are not eradicated alone and we are better together. That from each artisan and each customer, we are all creating a new story, a freedom story. Our brand name stems from the verse Colossians 3:14 that the trailer has tatted on the back saying “Regardless of what you put on Wear Love.” We wish for our customers, artisans, anyone who will listen to know they were created with love, and the jewelry we sell was to handmade with love, so wear it out proudly. I am so deeply proud of Denver for receiving us so well. It has been beyond humbling to see likeminded people catch our vision and passion for desiring to see an end to human trafficking!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I often Instagram stalk other fashion trucks and how they have grown to gain a big following- I am always looking for tips in that department because my soul age is in her 80’s and I don’t completely understand the algorithms. But as far as listening to speakers Christine Caine, the founder of A21 is a huge inspiration for me. Her non-profit is world widely impacting survivors of human trafficking and helping others learn signs and how too to be a part of the solution. She’s a queen.
