Conversations with the Inspiring Becky Nuttall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Nuttall.

Becky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have had the great privilege of being in the wedding industry for 13 years as a wedding photographer. I have been invited into countless stories, lives and families from around the world. This has not been lost on me. A wedding day is more than a party to capture, it is the first day of a couple’s marriage and the first step into a couples future. Being a part of that is an honor.

Being a photographer has opened many doors that have led me to where I am today. My husband and I are at the threshold of opening a new urban industrial wedding venue in downtown Colorado Springs called C L A Y.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The start of anything new is scary. The unknown is scary. I have learned so much as I have stepped into this new arena of venue ownership. I am thankful for the many friends I have made that have walked this road before me who have been willing to help, speak truth and share from their victories and their mistakes.

When my husband Aaron and I decided to make C L A Y Venues a reality, we kept saying the same thing over and over again. “The disappointment will be much greater in 10 years if we had never tried vs if we try and fail” That’s when we knew we had to do it, so we went for it.

I have learned to push through the scary, the unknown and the overwhelming. I have learned to encourage and support others when my life and new business feels overwhelming, to be thankful and to have a grateful attitude that I have the opportunity to start something so amazing.

I have learned to prioritize what’s important. My family, my friends and my own well being come before the stress of picking paint colors, finalizing electrical plans and booking a full wedding season at a brand new venue. These are all important and must be done but they don’t come at the expense of the former. Keep your first things first.

My advice, go for it and create something beautiful that you are passionate about! Jump into the scary unknown. I am convinced we will all be far more disappointed if we don’t try then if we do and fail.

What should we know about Clay Venues? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
When the idea of C L A Y was born, I was determined to create something that was not only beautiful but also memorable. A place that when its all said and done is simply beautiful walls with tables + chairs, but when filled with people and community is a space that will hold hundreds of memories. C L A Y will be a space where dads walk brides down the aisle, first looks and first kisses, take place, where bridesmaids and groomsmen give toasts and countless couple’s first dances all happen. This is why C L A Y is being created, to create memories, not just turn over events.

We are dedicated to our client and vendor experience. If you step inside C L A Y’s doors then we want you to feel cared for, thought of and heard.

C L A Y is 6,000 square feet of urban industrial charm in downtown Colorado Springs. C L A Y can accommodate 200 guests for a seated dinner or 250 guests for a standing reception. The natural wood tongue + grove ceilings, exposed steel beams, white walls and clean aesthetic make C L A Y the ideal location for your next event.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are so many opportunities for women to start and own business’. Many cities offer grants as well as classes and workshop for women entrepreneurs. There are many podcasts, books and seminars that encourage women to go for it, to create something big. These have all been avenues that have encouraged me in my businesses

There will always be challenges for men and women alike when starting anything new. I truly believe that women who pursue a dream of what they are good at and seek out other women who have gone before them will be a success in more ways than one.
