Conversations with the Inspiring Beth Hicks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Hicks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Beth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for photography came when I was eight years old and my grandma bought me my first camera. About four years ago, I started photographing my friends and their special events (engagements, weddings, newborns, etc.) and my passion turned into a business. My love for capturing happy moments, whether it be an annual family photoshoot, a baby within the first week of life, or that most important wedding event has allowed me to truly enjoy the emotion of this work. The warmth of the love shines through the photos I capture.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been very lucky with this journey. I have many repeat customers and mostly get additional business through word of mouth. To say everything has been easy would be mostly accurate. Just like any business, there are challenges, especially capturing once in a lifetime events and the stresses that come with expectations.

What should we know about B Lauren Photography? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I pride myself in being an affordable, true to color, light and airy photographer (wow that’s a mouthful). Photography styles are ever changing however I believe my style is timeless and allows you to enjoy these photos for years to come. My expertise is really capturing families, especially kids. As a pediatric oncology nurse and a mom of two, my forte is making even the most stubborn toddlers have the happiest expressions. You may experience me singing, jumping, dancing and even wiping a booger or two. I often hear parents think they didn’t get any “good ones” when it comes to photos and are always incredibly surprised with the beautiful outcome.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I feel the biggest strengths of being a female in the photography industry is my attention to detail and my motherly instincts. In order to get great results, especially with kids, they have to trust you and want to play with you around. Being a mother and being “great with kids” makes being a female an advantage in this industry.
