Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Robinson.
Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As little girls we dream of being a princess, pop-star or mermaid. Yes, I wanted to be all of these things, who wouldn’t?! Little did I know that my passion was empowering women by reminding them how beautiful and courageous they are. I am a hairstylist in Colorado. I love being able to turn my creativity into a business while empowering women.
I began at a J Beverly Hills Concept Salon in Parker, CO. I asked probably 143,870 questions to each stylist there and absorbed, studied and realized my next step is to pursue beauty school. I attended Xenon International Academy in 2014. As I was building my foundation for hair I had my eye on the J Beverly Hills Show Case Salon for Colorado, Aura Salon. I immediately applied for an internship and got it! (Yes! Send what you want out into the universe, you will see how amazing it is!)
After One Year, I decided that I needed more. I want my own business! I had to speak with Dianna, she has been my inspiration from day one and she was starting to open her own salon, The Style Lounge. This is a booth rental salon, and at that very moment I realized this is my next step. My business baby, Brit Hair & Co was born. I have been at this salon for almost three years now with an amazing group of ladies that challenge and empower each other! Eventually, I will have my own salon to learn, create and inspire with! Always remember to keep growing and find what lights your fire!
Has it been a smooth road?
There are many struggles while you’re starting your own business. Right?! I still have some struggles, it’s a constant learning curve. It’s how you handle and grow with them. Now… for the real talk. Money. You have to have some sort of foundation, don’t you? No. When I started my own business, I was 19 with probably $300 in the bank. I had three jobs. Hair (of course), waitress and retail. But I was bringing in enough to cover rent, backbar and the day to day bills. My main focus was hair; to build my clientele I used Groupon. I know, but word of mouth spread fast and soon after a year… wait for it… my clientele was built to quit my other jobs.
More real talk. Becoming a mother. My fiancé and I were extremely blessed with our beautiful baby girl. Currently she is 18 months and just a big bowl of sass. Growing your business, finding more time for your business is extremely challenging. However, anytime she is napping I DO NOT clean (maybe a little) I use this time to listen to podcasts, read my kindle, take a bubble bath (yes we really need that). Her nap time is my me time. When she’s gets up that clean time, storytime, playtime and all of the above. Always remember to be the best version of you. It’s best for you and everyone around you. Another struggle is bookkeeping! Stay on top of it and if you cannot.. HIRE a bookkeeper. I use QuickBooks and like it, it’s simple and any errors or confusion I have my accountant handles. One BIG suggestion I have to conquer these struggles is to write down goals and how to achieve those goals. If you don’t know how to achieve them, research or google or both.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Brit Hair & Co story. Tell us more about the business.
Aside from all the business talk, let’s talk about my passion! I specialize in blonding, balayage and hair extensions. This is what lights my fire. I am constantly learning new techniques, new formulations and the why behind it! I want to not only be able to deliver my best work to all of my clients but to fellow stylists.
A major goal that I recently accomplished is becoming a J Beverly Hills Colour Educator. I then decided that Brit Hair & Co needs to have education (hint, hint, wink, wink, coming soon!) I thrive and get a lot of energy off of working with other stylists, hopefully inspiring and teaching but also I learn so much from each and everyone of them! They challenge me and push my thinking and creativity.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
This is probably my favorite question! Who doesn’t want to live their best life? This thing we all do, adulting can sometimes dim our fire. You have to keep fueling your fire! I’m going to list off my favorite books and podcasts and bloggers!
