Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Kittell.
Carolyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Laguna Beach, CA. I went to college and played volleyball at the University of Oklahoma. My dad was a dentist in Southern California. I grew up around dentistry and decided I wanted to be a dental hygienist. I was a dental hygienist for five years and then went back to dental school at OU. I practiced in Oklahoma for a few years, but my husband and I are very active, especially in mountain biking, so we decided to move to Colorado. I purchased a dental practice in Greenwood Village (DTC) 5 years ago. I also combined my practice with my next-door neighbor Dr. Michael Goldfogel, who will be finishing out his career of over 40 years in the near future. We have enjoyed our partnership and I will be blessed to take over his practice once he retires. I have an entrepreneurial mind and I am always seeking to expand and grow my practice.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road overall but when I look back I can’t believe I am where I am! I think for many young women, we look at professional schooling as something that takes forever. I didn’t become a dentist until I was 35 and it was worth the journey. Time flies and before you know it, you have the career of your dreams! Once you achieve your goals it’s always important to look back and remember where you started. It’s easy to get caught up in the next big accomplishment. I am definitely guilty of that!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Smile Essentials story. Tell us more about the business.
I am mostly known for conservative cosmetic dentistry or cosmetic bonding. I receive referrals for other dentist for this procedure, which is great because I am passionate about cosmetic dentistry. Our practice is a general dental practice as well. We really focus on oral health and prevention. Our team is extraordinary. They are friendly and kind. Our patients love the relationships that we form with them. It also makes for a great work environment.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I’ve always been inspired by Brene Brown and her talks on vulnerability and courage. I have really applied her theories to my personal and work life. It has made me a better provider for my patients, a better wife and leader for my employees.
My mom has inspired me as an athlete. She is almost 70 and still mountain bike riding. I included a photo.
