Conversations with the Inspiring Chayla Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chayla Lopez.

Chayla , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my makeup journey in high school. All of my classmates loved my work, so they’d ask me to do their makeup for school dances. This is where it all started for me. Me being good at makeup caught me by surprise and I realized I had found a new passion! I started posting my looks on Instagram and received way more love than expected. After years of hard work and creating content, I gained a lot of support from family, strangers, and makeup brands.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. I get into creative blocks sometimes, I don’t believe in my work, or I’ll even sometimes think it won’t get me anywhere. My advice for other young women starting their journey is to keep creating, and stay consistent. Always believe in yourself and your artwork. Just because someone is more advanced than you, doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough and you can’t get there too. Practice makes perfect! I only made it to where I am today because I was able to push myself through the negative times. One thing that I suggest for anyone going through a creative block is to get out of your comfort zone. Try something new and it will bring new ways to think which means new creative ideas! When I first started makeup I wasn’t as creative as I am now. I taught myself how to be creative. Nature is one thing that has helped me the most. I taught myself to observe the smallest things about the world. Patterns, shapes, color schemes, anything can be inspiring it just depends on how you look at it!

what should we know about @chaylachaylene ? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am most known for my editorial makeup looks. I love soft glam but nothing is more fun than adding color and creativity. I would say I’m set apart from other artists because not only do I post my work on Instagram, I still wear my editorial looks out in public. Some people think its too much makeup but to me its art. Seeing lot of colors makes me happy and they can make a stranger happy too. I’ve inspired plenty of strangers and kids. They ask me questions about my makeup and I always suggest for them to try it too. It inspires people to step out of their comfort zone, to play with makeup and try new looks. Who wants to look the exact same every single day? That may be the way for some people but for me its boring!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom has always inspired me. She went to cosmetology school so she taught me a lot about makeup. When I first got into makeup artistry, my mom bought me all of the makeup products that Mario Dedivanovic used on Kim Kardashian. That meant the world to me because I knew she believed in me and my passion. Still ’til this day she believes in my work and most importantly me. Theres a lot of parents who don’t want their kids to follow a “silly” passion like art, makeup, music etc. but not her, she has always believed in me and I can’t thank her enough for that.

Pricing:

  • I start at $55 for a full face of makeup, depending on what you’d like.
