Conversations with the Inspiring Chelyna Kokou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelyna Kokou.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my business in Atlanta in 2016. I started off as a makeup artist and microblading tech. At the time, I was 19 years old. Since I was married young and my husband at the time was in the military. We moved around so I later moved my business to Kansas then Colorado.

Sadly when me and my ex moved here we later separated. I continued to do microblading at Inspire Salon in Parker but I later decided I wanted to be an esthetician and expand my services. November of 2019, I opened up my business and J’adore Beauty & Browz has an official location. So far business has been good and I am blessed to have wonderful clients. My dream was always have my own salon where I can make women feel beautiful. Although the road was bumpy I still made a way. My business specializes in special occasion makeup, permanent makeup, waxing lashes, and skincare.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to being in this industry was hard because when I finished esthetician, I decided for once I wanted to work for someone. I was denied by every place I filled an application for. So one day, I decided I was going to invest in my own business. Don’t get me wrong it was pretty expensive so for a good minutes I was dancer. With the money I saved up and my dancing money I used it for my business. For the women starting their own journey. Don’t give up. Believe in yourself harder than anyone. Always go after what you want. There was so many reason why I should have given up but I wasn’t going to do it because my dream was to be in the beauty industry. I am the happiest when I am working in my business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into J’adore Beauty & Browz story. Tell us more about the business.
Well what do I do, I have specialized in permanent makeup, waxing, lashes and skincare. I mostly known for microblading and permanent make up like eyebrow tattooing, lip tattoos and eyeliner. What sets my service apart is that my permanent makeup service all includes a free touchup. So I strive to satisfy my clients. What makes my business different is that we cater everybody and our goal to make everybody feel like a better them.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I feel like biggest barrier today in female leadership is we like to keep things a secret and we don’t really like to come together.
