Conversations with the Inspiring Danielle Vandyke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Vandyke.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fashion has always been a part of my life since I was a little girl. It started with modeling, I would pretend I was on the runway practicing my walk and even practice posing in the mirror. But because I was so short I didn’t think that me being a model was realistic. However, as I got older the art and the creativity in fashion stuck with me, only now it would be through the way I dressed. I’ve always considered myself different, some may say a little weird but that was the cool part about me. I would wear things in a way others wouldn’t but that’s what made me stand out. I remember how my cousin and I would put these crazy styles together and go walk around downtown and take pictures of each other. We didn’t realize then but we were actually creating some great content. Those moments have always stuck with me as I got older and because my love for fashion has grown, I continued with that concept creating my own brand Barclaes.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has not been a smooth road at all but I must say I am proud of who I’ve become. Throughout my journey, I have dealt with a lot of fear, depression, anxiety, and just trying to find myself. I’ve always had to be my own cheerleader. However, I knew that I wanted to be the best me and nothing was going to stop me. It took a lot of prayer and faith while going through certain situations that challenged me. But I was able to overcome those dark obstacles. For a woman who are struggling through their journey, I would say keep fighting. Life is not easy but it can be simple, always believe in yourself and fear nothing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Barclaes story. Tell us more about the business.
My brand Barclaes is for both Women and Men. I create the content, style the clothing, and take the photos. I am known for styling photoshoots but I am currently working on expanding to help with personal styling needs and creating a more fashionable closet for my clients.

As a brand, I am most proud of how far I’ve come and the art I’ve created. Nothing was ever easy, I was a little girl with all of these dreams and now they are my reality.

What sets me apart is my determination and drive, my ability to care for and understand others. I don’t just want my clients to look good but I want them to feel good and know just how great they are.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
A woman just starting her career should understand who they are and what they want. Do your research to know what you’re getting into. Also, love yourself and what you do and do it with passion.
