Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Trevizo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Deanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing photography when I was quite young, I was only 10-years old and had gotten my first film camera as an adoption present. I became obsessed with taking pictures. However, saving up for film and having it developed stopped me from getting as much as I wanted. When I got into high school, I took a photography class and was in heaven. I learned how to develop film in the darkroom and tried opening a photo business in my early 20’s. However, it became too expensive with film, developing, and printing. However, I still practiced as much as I could afford, When I was in College film was just turning into digital. It was an interesting time for photography. I used other people’s digital camera until I finally got one of my digital cameras as a graduation present. I graduated with my Arts Degree when I was 25. I went to Europe for my 30th bday and came back wanted to just do photography. I worked at Lifetouch doing school pictures, JcPenny’s doing family pictures, and soon American Wedding Group doing weddings. I learned a lot about taking pictures and in 2014 I opened up my own photography business, naming it Drive The Image. It’s been an amazing journey and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂
Has it been a smooth road?
There is always bumps in the road when trying to run your own photography business. The biggest struggles were having the equipment I wanted to be able to photograph the jobs I wanted. I worked a day job for many years and did photography on the weekends to get better equipment. Also, I’m very hands on so I learned by shadowing quite a few other photographers. My advice is to never stop learning no matter how long you have been doing your passion. No matter how long you have been in the Field, don’t let others that have been in the field longer discourage you from doing what you love.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a photographer that specializes in weddings. I’m known for always smiling, and being happy since it took me a while to be able to do what I love. The thing that I’m most proud of is winning “Best Wedding Photographer,” twice in a row from Denver-A-List. (2017 & 2018). As an organization, I’m happy I can give back to my community a few times a year. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m very determined and never give up.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I’m a big believer that my being adopted had a huge role in setting me up for success later in life. I only had two pictures of me as a child and it made me determined I would document the rest of my life. My camera has become my recorder and turned into a career. I had no idea I would be able to live my dream as a kid. The older I got, I was determined to make it come true.
