Conversations with the Inspiring DeLonda Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeLonda Adams.

DeLonda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A little after my son was born, I felt moved to start a ministry for moms. I talked to another friend about the idea and she was totally on board and we launched Proverbs 31 Mama in 2009. During the first few years, I experienced and learned a lot of things (good and bad). My ministry partner could no longer continue and I needed encouragement to keep going. I kept feeling this nudge for something new, but I ignored it for a moment. One day, as I was journaling sitting in the car in the pick-up line at my son’s school, I begin to talk to God. I wondered why I could not find a place of encouragement, where could I find women who wanted to retreat sometimes, and the list went on. I was at my wit’s end when the Lord spoke to my heart that He had called me to create such a place.

That place would now be called Women Resting in God’s Grace what many know as WRIGG. This ministry is a place of encouragement, support, and retreat for women to live and lead powered by the grace of God. We do this through our weekly devotional letter, prayer, mentoring, retreats, Brunch & Grace, and more.

This has not been an easy road. I have wanted to quit more times than I am willing to admit, but I am still moving forward and I am so glad that I did not quit. Even when I thought the Lord was telling me to quit I knew I had to still keep moving.

When women talk about how busy and overwhelmed they are, I know I can’t quit.
When I can clearly see that so many are bound and don’t know true freedom, I know that I can’t quit.
When women can’t move forward and trust God because of their past, I know that I can’t quit.

I know I can’t quit until God really says enough…

I have experienced for myself what freedom feels like when I rest in God and allow His grace to flow freely in my life. It is something that I want every woman that I am blessed to touch to experience as well. Today, I am still learning to rest in God by putting my full trust in Him in new ways. My heart’s desire is that women all over the world will know true freedom by becoming a woman that rests in God’s grace!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not (SMILE!). There are always struggles when you are launching out by faith. I struggled with identity. All of those identity struggles included staying in my lane, and leaving the past behind which are both wrapped up in fear.

I remember hosting my first informational meeting for Women Resting in God’s Grace. I was so excited and as the planning went forward fear crept in and told me that nobody wanted to rest so I should not waste my time. Then, I started running in circles trying to figure out what else this meeting should be about. I laugh now but it was not funny then, I got it! I will think of other events that they could help within the community, give them business strategy, and blah, blah, blah. The day of the meeting, I passionately told my story and gave the women all these things they could do.

After the meeting, one lady commented, “I thought we were going to rest!” As I write this I am literally laughing out loud, HA! I thought I was the biggest loser and this had nothing to do with weight. However, I talked with one woman after and she was encouraged by the passion with what I was doing. I knew then at that moment that I had run into God’s grace once again. Although, I flopped at that meeting there were some who still came along while I got myself together.

What I would tell women young and old who are just starting out on their journey is to know who they are, what they are called to do, and do it boldly no matter what. Yes, there will be people out there that do not agree with what you do and are saying but if your desire is to please God you will keep showing up no matter what. You see, when I started out doing that event I wanted to please God and fear crept in and I moved to please man instead. However, in my mess, God still did not make that event a total loss.

When we know who we are in Christ and are confident in His purposes for us we will move forth with power and grace. So, to all of you ladies out there, I say don’t let fear of men or the unknown keep you from the process of your journey. You will get weary, restless, and discouraged but keep yourselves rooted in God’s love (prayer, God’s Word, and worship) and you will find that although you fall, through God’s grace you will get up with even more determination than before.

Remember, someone needs what you were purposed to do. Don’t let fear or yourself tell you that it’s not valuable. Even if someone else is doing it they are not YOU! Yes, I said it. You say it different, your personality is different, your measure of grace is different, and even though they may have tried other places it will be your key that will unlock understanding that will bring change in their lives. So, when you step out don’t look back and don’t look to the left or right. Be encouraged that you are making a difference even if you don’t hear it often.

If God is for you, then who in the world can be against you? You got this!

What should we know about Women Resting in God’s Grace (WRIGG)? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am blessed to have been graced with many gifts. With Women Resting in God’s Grace we are known for our yearly rest retreats and Brunch & Grace gatherings.

I also do Grace Mentoring, Tuesday prayer calls, events, and I enjoy writing to my WRIGG Women each Tuesday through my newsletter. There is also, my online Good Gifts Boutique where women can get their prayer journals, books, and more.

With that, I also operate Room 18:16 which is a virtual assistance service for small businesses and ministries. Through Room 18:16, I help give business owners and ministry leaders a little rest by taking some tasks off their hand.

What I love the most is doing the yearly retreats. I can put all of gifts in motion! Best of all I get to put into practice my gift for giving. The yearly rest retreats are what sets us apart from others. Why? It’s because we truly rest. Some get it and some don’t and those that get it are truly blessed when they come, We don’t post an itinerary because we believe it’s our secret sauce. On many retreats, you often leave more tired than you came. That is because retreats these days are filled with one mini church service after another, break-out sessions all day, and one activity to the next. That does not sound that retreat at all to us. So, we don’t do it!

Our desire is that when women come and retreat with us they will leave with a desire to carve out more times of rest in their everyday living.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
With all your plans submit them to God, trust Him, stay focused, stick to your values that you hold close to your heart and you will do well.
