Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Mayberry.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ll never forget where I was when I first started my blog. I was sitting on the bottom bunk in a room filled with bunk beds in Northern Ireland. I was studying abroad my senior year of college and a friend told me that I should start a blog. I didn’t really know much about them but I knew my mom would LOVE to see and read about my time there so I opened up blogger and wrote my first post.
After that, it was history! I began to dig into the blogging world and be inspired to continue learning, growing, writing, and sharing. It was a place where so many of my passions could come together. I taught myself bits of coding to make my blog look nice and how to take the pictures I loved seeing on other blogs. It was a hobby that brought me so much joy and after several years of on again, off again blogging, I dove in and really started seeing growth.
Eventually, I got to a place where I was working two full-time jobs and I knew one of them had to go for the sake of my family and my sanity. It was June of 2016 when I jumped in and went full time with Oak + Oats! Ever since then, it has continued to mold & grow as I’ve entered into motherhood and new life seasons. I’m so thankful for the flexibility of this job and to be celebrating a decade of blogging this year!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Comparison is always something that can pop up and make you feel defeated before you even start. Especially when you are new to something. I remember my first blog posts and looking around at other blogs that were just so much better at photography and had much larger readerships and feeling like I would never get there. We are not all on the same journey. We didn’t start the same time or have the same life experiences. I love that saying “Stay in your own lane” because it is so true. We all have something to offer and our seasons are not always the same. If you want to start something, do it! Don’t worry about all you have to learn or how “far ahead” others are, just focus on what you are doing – in your lane!
What should we know about Oak + Oats? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Colorado Lifestyle Blogger & Photographer. I’m a mama who looks for the remarkable in the every day. We love sharing our daily moments, making memories, and sharing our favorite places on our blog.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I honestly think there is so much opportunity! Growing up, I never would have said I wanted to be a blogger because that job didn’t exist! But now I get to stay at home with my two little girls AND work my dream job! Working for myself offers so much flexibility to be able to be a stay at home mama as well and I love that!
