Conversations with the Inspiring Hana Sunny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hana Sunny.

Hana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always took on jobs where I was in front of the camera ever since high school. Recently, back in February, I decided to buy a camera and learn how to use photoshop.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, this field is extremely saturated. I treat it more as of a hobby than a career just because it is so competitive. I did burn out for a few weeks back in April/May.

Know your worth, do not “collab” with everyone and anyone. This is why in our industry people expect free work. If you are good at what you do, charge. Or no one will be able to make it their career.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I work as a software engineer during the day, the normal 9-5. I don’t like to call myself a model or anything just because I feel like nowadays everyone is an “Instagram model.” But I am in front of the camera sometimes for mostly fashion and lifestyle-related jobs. It’s more of a hobby. I also shoot as an amateur photographer in mostly portraits, fashion, travel, and lifestyle photography.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
There are so many pretty girls or good photographers out there. You have to be able to stand out.
