Conversations with the Inspiring Jen Duckett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Duckett.

Jen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Forever a crafter, I have always loved attempting to create new things. Combine that with a love of big earrings & the minute I saw some leather earrings, I knew I needed to make myself some. I immediately fell in love with how lightweight they were on my ears. They were so different from my usual large, heavy statement earrings. I then gifted all my friends & family a pair & they too loved the statement & lightweight of them. After encouragement from my family, I decided to pursue a new avenue of selling my creations. Having never sold any of what I created, it felt like a really big leap for me personally but I did it & it has been so rewarding. I love seeing women light up when they venture into the world of big(ger) earrings & love what they see in the mirror. I get to run this little business while staying at home with my three little boys… hence the name WildJoy.

Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest struggles have absolutely been in my own head. The song that played often in my head was that of insecurity & unbelief in myself. Lucky for me, the song from others has been louder. I have had a lot of people believing in me & encouraging me along the way. I have interactions all the time with amazing women who encourage & inspire me into the venture. And while my fear of mistakes & failure & unhappy customers is still there, it is not nearly as threatening. I realize now that all of those things will happen on some level & they will make me & this adventure better. Mistakes & failure are not as destructive as I thought:).

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I create lightweight leather & cork earrings in a variety of colors, textures & patterns. Sizes range from mini for the littles to Extra Large for gals who really love to make a bold statement. We just added hats to the mix because cute hats & beautiful earrings compliment each other so very perfectly.

When I think of WildJoyCo & what it stands for & means, I feel so very proud that it has created an avenue of connection between women. I LOVE hearing from women how many times they’ve been complimented on their earrings by strangers. Who couldn’t use a few more compliments int heir day to day?!?! I also love those women out & about in the community ignite conversations with one another when they see someone else wearing a pair of WildJoyCo earrings.

It has felt like a very sweet gift to watch women who are on the fence as to “if they can pull off big(ger) earrings” put them on, glance in the mirror & light up at what they see. Women desire to feel beautiful & I love that earrings can remind them that they are INDEED beautiful.

Podcasts have become one of my favorite ways to learn more & grow in my business. Jenna Kutcher’s series “Goal Digger” is inspiring & motivating & gives ideas that are so easy to put into action immediately. Christy Wright’s podcast “Business Boutique” has also been a wonderful, applicable resource for small businesses.
