Conversations with the Inspiring Jennifer Elle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Elle.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started taking photos as a kid and always loved doing so! Being a photographer always sounded so glamorous to me and it was the only thing I ever wanted to be!! I was able to begin to do it as a solo profession after my first daughter was born and built up the business around staying home with her to raise her. I continued to build the business even more after my second daughter was born. I began by practicing on family and friends; watching YouTube videos; joining photography groups; taking classes and just a lot of trial and error. I had a friend ask me to do their wedding in 2015 and gave me that chance at doing my first wedding. It just launched and continued to grow from there! I now have numerous weddings under my belt and am so excited about the ones that are booked in the upcoming year and next! I am always continuing to learn and grow! So much is always changing and improving and I always try to stay current and visible!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. You always have to learn from your mistakes and grow from what you have learned. I struggled with lighting along the way and had to learn many different techniques so I would know what to do in just about any difficult situation. I also had to learn to be more assertive and make sure I got those important forever photos during sometimes chaotic events such as weddings. You have to be strong and you have to have goals. Knowing what those goals are that you seek will keep your driving toward them every day! You can’t give up when you have a setback. Learn from them and keep moving forward. Know your competition, but don’t constantly compare yourself to others. Grow from within and find what YOU need to do to get to where YOU want to be. I cannot stress that last part enough!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a very versatile photographer. I would say I specialize in weddings and family/children’s portraits, but I also do a lot of lifestyle sessions; work with models and the fashion industry; do senior pictures, sports, and other events as well. I have some of my landscape photography hanging in a DazBog coffee shop in Loveland, CO as well! I am proud of my work, I always uphold myself to the highest standards.

I am also an adventurous photographer. Colorado weather is very unpredictable and I will work in anything. Blizzards, rain, and wind can sometimes make for the most epic photos!! I also climb up 14’ers for engagement sessions or elopements and have no problem getting to where we need to go to get the BEST shots possible! I travel for weddings as well and very much enjoy doing destination weddings in other amazing places!

I occasionally switch to the other side of the camera and do a bit of modeling as well, though I am much more comfortable behind the lens! I am also a Mother of two little girls, an avid runner always training for Half or Full Marathons and love encouraging other people to stay active and live their best lives!! Find your passions and keep moving forward, whatever you are doing!

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
You know, I really feel like the only limits we have are the ones we put on ourselves. Self-doubt and fear of failure being two of the main barriers. We have to set our mind to things and TRULY believe that we can accomplish those things. Then GO DO IT. Get out there, do whatever it takes to make it happen and don’t rely on anybody else. There is always a way if you want something bad enough. Women have come along way with shattering the glass ceilings and becoming independent and strong. Let’s keep doing just that and lift each other up!!
