Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliet George.
Juliet, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a kid, I had always loved the idea of art. How colors combine to create an entire picture and tells a story. My family does not believe you can get far in doing any kind of art for the world to see. My mom who is born in Mexico didn’t really have a chance of having a career. As far as my dad being from Honduras, didn’t have an education either. He found ways to support his family in being a handyman to now become a local plumber. When I told them my dream of photography they didn’t put much attention to it but only encourage me to give that dream up and go to school for a doctor or a nurse. Since they didn’t have the opportunity to thrive and go to school, they wanted me to succeed in life. I tried pleasing my family in chasing a career I knew I wasn’t going to learn to love the way I did with the art of photography. Since there’s so much competition in photography, my family knew failure would be part of the process. They didn’t see any hope in me achieving that dream. That didn’t stop me, I grew past that and I wanted to do more. It started with taking pictures on a cell phone camera. Capturing the moments of my friends, pets, and family. It was a small but strong motivation inside me that made me want to start this amazing dream of taking pictures and helping others capture these memories.
The name Capulet photography came from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Capulet is the last name of Juliet’s family that had bad blood with Romeo’s family, The Montague‘s. It seemed fitting for my photography as I had already loved the idea of how the play was written with two cross lovers who weren’t able to be together because their families were at war within themselves. It stood out to me to take the name of something that had my name included with a story you’ve never heard before but in Shakespeare’s world. My parents had tried pushing me away from art, but I couldn’t just give up without really giving it my all. So here I am, giving it my all every single time, thriving to pursue my dream in taking pictures and providing a memorable experience in capturing special moments.
A year ago, I met someone who I truly believe is my soul mate. Out of anyone, he encouraged me to keep going forward with it. Within him, I met his sister in law who happened to be a local florist. She’s known for creating the most mesmerizing installations and floral arrangements. In meeting her, I realized there was so much more in just taking pictures of people but the beauty of nature and it’s colorful attributes. Capturing her art had open new opportunities for me in meeting new people and showing them my capabilities as a photographer. Every day, I write down my thoughts and ideas of what kind of photography I want to do next. What I want it to look like. I catch different ideas within the seasons or things that may be trending and try to take it to the next level. Photography has grown within me, I’ve always loved the idea of pictures and capturing that moment to have and keep forever. It can seem unreal that my dreams are coming true as young women. Pictures tell a story and my job is to make sure that story is told for many other generations to see. This is only the beginning of my photography journey, and I have a lot to learn from it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing has been easy. Starting as a photographer I didn’t have a camera. My photography took off with the simplest thing, an iPhone camera. Every Christmas and birthday I would ask for any camera just to help me start off. My family told me that regardless of what camera it would be, it was too expensive. With the problem of not having a camera, I had people who didn’t take my photography dream serious. Close friend would take advantage of it and didn’t credit my work when it came to posting it on there social platform. Taking pictures on my phone made people believe that no photographer that takes pictures through a cell phone would ever be taken seriously. When people think of a photographer, they see a big camera lens behind a person. But over time, cellphones have improved with camera quality including portrait mode to create a professional photography finish. So, with more improved technology, anyone can become a photographer and start small to move on big. I’ve learned new ways of taking pictures, skills that many photographers do on their photography. You have to start with a dream somewhere with anything you can start with, mine was my phone. The advice I would give anyone who is up and coming and following there dreams is to go for it, chase that dream and see how far it goes. Don’t let other people get in the way of your dream or tell you you won’t be successful. Sometimes you need those negative responses to prove them they’re wrong and you can actually do more then you are capable of. You’re responsible for your own future. Prove them anything can be possible.
What should we know about Capulet Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a photographer/videographer in the local Denver area. My photography is portrait, nature, and fine-art photography. I can take from family portraits to style shoots. My vision as a photographer comes from the upcoming season and many other inspiring pictures online. As far as Videography goes, I love how you can tell a story through movement and background music. Videography has pulled me more toward a storytelling form and being able to give out a message. It takes more time and patience to get every detail right to make every single part of the story flow but gives you a better image of what is going on. As I continue in my photography/videography career, I’m most proud of how far I have come with it and how much creativity has come from it. I’ve learned so much throughout taking pictures and videos that I can say I could be the many few photographers that started photography on an iPhone camera and continues to provide great quality videos and pictures. I am excited to see what comes next, what new challenges come my way.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The advice I would give to any young women coming up to whatever business they have to offer is to never give up. It can get hard sometimes and you’ll feel drained and feel like quitting but that’s when you gotta be strong and push through. It’s important to have people around you that support and help you with any sort of career that you want to pursue. Along the way, you will see people who will disagree with your work, but at the end of the day, that is completely up to you if you want to feed into the negative responses or grow past it and become really successful in the career path you’re taking. Failure will be part of it but it’s a way of learning and growing. Learning new skills is always important to improve your work. Be open to new learning opportunities and you will see new doors will open up for you. We can all be successful in what we love to do but most of all we have to have faith that over so much hard work, It will finally pay off.
