Conversations with the Inspiring Kat Wickstrom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Wickstrom.

Kat, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My father had been trying to get a camera in my hands for years. He has been a hobby photographer for his entire life, and every family vacation isn’t complete without a camera around his neck. We even had to convince him to not walk me down the aisle at my wedding with a camera. When I finally caved and picked up my first DSLR, it was like coming home. Now I cannot imagine my life without photography. It’s a legacy my father introduced me to, and now I plan to extend to my family.

I started photographing weddings about five years ago. There was something magical about that moment when two people dedicate their lives to each other, and I became passionate about making sure that it was the best intimate moment for them. The photos and art I create are the connection with that ultimate commitment of love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running a small business, like anything worth having in life, is a hard, slow process. Patience and continuous dedication is essential to making it all happen and achieving success. It doesn’t happen overnight and there are so many things that like to hold you back. Whether it’s people who don’t believe in your dream or your own frustrations, if you truly put in the time and effort, you can overcome those obstacles.

I’m here to capture your special day the way you imagine it. More than just a photographer – I’m the coffee holder, dress fluff-er, detail planner, hiking guide, wine taster, goof master, dog whisperer, and your new best friend. I help you dream, design, and execute the perfect wedding day. Not to mention the beautiful images I capture for you to have forever.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
When I was a kid, creativity played a huge roll in how I expressed myself. I was constantly imagining new worlds and creating beautiful images in my head to process how I perceived the world.
