Conversations with the Inspiring Kelsie Henry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Henry.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I live in Byers, Co and really fell in love with the sliding barn door look. After getting a quote of a set of them, I decided to try and make them myself. Once I posted a picture of them on my Facebook page, it blew up! Within two months of that post, I decided to take a leap of faith and quit my full-time job at a motorcycle dealership to do woodwork full time! Two 1/2 years later and I’ve made over 200 barn doors, 50 dining table sets, countless end tables, coffee tables, entry tables, and decor items. I specialize in custom farmhouse style furniture and couldn’t be happier bringing customers Pinterest boards to life!

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve been blessed with great friends, family, and small-town community who spread my name throughout Colorado! I never took out a loan to start my business, but with each order I received, I’d use the profit to buy a new tool. All the way up to building a 1000 sq ft workshop on my property! You can never stop learning new things in this career choice that is what I love the most. If you have the drive, you can do it too, it just takes commitment!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into KD’s Custom Woodwork story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in farmhouse style furniture and decor. I’m known for my barn doors and dining tables with chairs and/or benches.

I think I am most proud of being self-taught! I take pride in every item delivered to a customer . And am a perfectionist almost to a fault. Once you get into the basics of woodwork, the sky is the limit, I strive to be the best and have goals of what I’d like to be able to build someday

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My sister Taylor is who I look up to the most in life. She fought childhood cancer at the age of nine and showed me through that to never, ever give up. She has always encouraged me to chase this dream. My mom is my best friend and my biggest fan by far. She’s been there to see the struggle and bring me back up when I’m ready to give up.
