Today we’d like to introduce you to Ksena McCloy.
Ksena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started painting without any real intent to turn it into a business. I’m a landscape architect technologist that needed a creative outlet while being a stay at home mom to my two children. I started casually painting small items around my home and found myself hooked. I began collecting vintage jewelry boxes and home decor and refinishing them which then lead to bigger pieces, new techniques and slowly, but steadily grew a following of people interested in what I created.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any new business, I’ve had to deal with a learning curve of finding what works for me and sets me apart from others doing the same thing. My biggest advice to anyone starting out is not to give up, sometimes things are tough before they are easy, but as long as you have passion in what you do, anything is possible.
What should we know about Weathered Willow Designs? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I refinish vintage and antique home decor and furniture as well as build and repurpose items that most people would never see potential in. I am very passionate at what I do, and like to think my attention to detail and listening to my client’s needs is what sets me apart. I treat each and every piece no matter the size like it’s a work of art and has the ability to be amazing.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Not to take yourself too seriously, everything happens in its own time for a reason. See the beauty in everything you learn as you go even if it’s in a failed attempt.
