Conversations with the Inspiring Liati Angelique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liati Angelique.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Liati . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The healing arts had always interested me. I grew up in Boulder, and so alternative health was part of my life from the beginning. Regardless of my interest in massage and bodywork, I put it on the back burner for years while exploring more the more mundane job avenues such as retail and administrative work. It wasn’t until I was 29 that I finally decided to go to massage school. I can’t believe I waited so long. I guess I wanted to make sure that I REALLY wanted to go. I graduated from Boulder College of Massage Therapy with Honors in the fall of 2010, It has been a journey of love ever since.

For many, many years, I worked as an independent contractor at The Body Bar–formerly in Lafayette, CO. In my years there, I was able to really grow and develop confidence, and cultivate my massage voice, so to speak. I have so much gratitude for the clients that I met there and got to work with, as well as the original owners who believed in my skills and gave me plenty of freedom to bloom.

As it goes with growth, I began to fantasize about beginning my own practice, and I knew that it was time to strike out and try my hand at creating my own gig. And so, The Connected Touch was born 19 short months ago, in March 2018.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any new ventures, it certainly has had its bumps in the road. For instance, only 9-months after striking out on my own, the space I was working from was being re-designed and therefore, was no longer going to have any room for me to work, so I had to find a new space. Client-based businesses can take a hit when there is a move in location, so there was the natural fall out from that, and some clients didn’t end up making the move with me. Ultimately, however, it was a positive move. There is also the challenge of cultivating a solid client base, but that is just something that comes with time.

My advice for women starting their journey is more based in mindset. It would be to believe in themselves and what they’re offering the world and to stay true to their purpose. It can be tempting when growing a clientele to bend past the point of one’s integrity in order to meet a client’s needs. If that’s the case, don’t be afraid to let that person go, they are not your client. Your clients will find you.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Connected Touch story. Tell us more about it.
Our bodies are much more than just physical. We have emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies as well. They are all connected. The Connected Touch is about nourishing each of those levels for happy, whole humans.

The bodywork that I’m known for is therapeutic, intuitive, and nurturing in nature. It is my joy to meet any client where they are on all levels and provide them with the work they need in order to bring themselves to wholeness. There is a degree of energy work happening all of the time coming from my hands, and yet my work is firm and deep enough to engage the tissues on a therapeutic level (think: hurts so good). The result of that combination leaves people feeling not only the physical relief of tension, but they also feel nurtured… one client put it as feeling like they “had just gotten a massage from the Earth, herself.”

Part of my success as a massage therapist is the strong intuition and love that I bring to what I do. Living an aligned life is important in order to fully allow my hands to “listen” to what is happening in my clients’ bodies, and address them accordingly–whether that is to deepen the stroke, gently hold the area, rock their body, etc. Sometimes, my intuition will speak to me in an image that further explains what may be going on on another level, such as emotional or spiritual. It usually is spot on with what is going on in their lives. Bringing about that awareness has the power to create deep change in people’s lives. It truly is an honor to be a part of that.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
The best advice I can give is to pay attention to people and groups that pique your interest and are aligned with how you work/who you work with.

My particular brand of networking is simply word-of-mouth and asking clients who I know love my work to be a “raving fan” to anyone who might be interested. It can be a slower route but it is organic growth that has led to the clients that have stayed with me for years and years.
