Conversations with the Inspiring Lisa Touzinsky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Touzinsky.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in the Midwest. I had a typical 80’s childhood full of running amok in the neighborhood, going helmetless on my bike and playing outside late into the evening while the cicadas sang. It was an amazing time. Most of which I didn’t understand at the time. I went to undergrad and graduate school in Missouri, with degrees in social work. I worked in mental health and with the senior population. Got married. Had a couple kids. A dog. All that good stuff. Exercise and wellness were always a big part of my life and after having my kids, I started teaching group fitness and eventually started my own personal training business. Life throws you for loops sometimes, which is both wonderful and scary as hell. My family and I ended up moving to Colorado seven years ago. I continued taking care of my kids and building my personal training business. In an unexpected turn, I got divorced a few years ago. It was a crazy hard time in which I questioned everything that I ever thought to be true. I was rocked to my core. As with most things in life, I came out on the other side and am better for it. It’s a weird and amazing feeling to see your life change so much. And to know that the story I thought had already been written and sealed was going to be reworked and was ever-changing. Today, I still work as a personal trainer, love spending time with my kids and the special people in my life, adore the Colorado outdoors and will be starting nursing school next month. Why not!?!?

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! Certainly not smooth. Bumpy and exciting I would say! I think as a woman, building your own life and career are important. It’s great and a wonderful choice to stay home and raise children, but also important to keep your brain and other skills tuned. Most importantly, I think the less we can attach to certain outcomes, the better. We often put ourselves into limiting boxes. Then, when we no longer fit those boxes, we feel lost and scared. Taking an approach to life that is fluid and open is so important. It’s very cliche, but I will never say never. It’s a silly and limiting thing to do. And sometimes, life doesn’t give us the option. Best to be ready and embrace what comes our way.

What should we know about Lisa Mandal Fitness? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a personal trainer. I love what I do because I love watching people gain confidence and I especially enjoy the mind/body connection and helping people experience how powerful this can be. I work with all sorts of people with all sorts of goals. But in the end, the main purpose is to be able to stay be happy and stay active in the bodies that we have, doing the things we love the most until our time here is done. I am thankful and humbled beyond words that people come to me for guidance in improving their overall experience in life. It’s a special bond. I do not take it for granted and am thankful to be on this journey with so many amazing people.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
I think when you know you know. Never force anything. We usually know who “our people” are. Making a decision about a mentor or friend or business partner or anything should be a good mix of logical thought, unstructured feeling and gut.
