Today we’d like to introduce you to Mini Molitor.
Mini, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had always wanted to open my own boba place. During my first year of college, I started a business plan and tried to get a place going. After looking into the costs, I immediately was afraid. And decided to continue to focus only on school. I graduated with a degree in accounting and financial management. Worked in the corporate world for six years and wanted to climb the corporate ladder.
During this time, I also helped my husband with his auto performance shop, Mofab. He had started this business when we first started dating. After years of watching him wake up early, excited and motivated to go to work every day (while I wake up dragging and complaining about going into work), I admitted that I was jealous and I needed to do something about it.
I thought, well what would make you happy right now? And that was waking up opening the doors to my very own boba shop. But I was always afraid to step out of my comfort zone and do anything that was risky. I liked to play safe. It wasn’t the right time. When is the right time? There is never a perfect time to step out of your comfort zone.
My husband wasn’t quite sold on this idea since we had a business already and I had the “safe” corporate job with benefits. But it was my turn to do what makes me happy. Knowing that it would not be easy, many hours will be invested with no immediate return and many many bumps in the road.
After an extremely discouraging contractor experience leaving me low on funds, grand opening delays and a complete tear down to start all over again, I was down and ready to give up. But my husband, family, and friends picked me up and pushed me through. Preferred Home Repair stepped in and saved me. They did everything they could to get my place put back together properly and did such a wonderful job. If you need any construction work, they are your people.
So, here I am now with my own Boba Shop! It definitely was not easy and still is not. I invested so much time and encountered so many bumps. But I pushed like I never had to before and with a lot (A LOT) of support from friends and family I (we) made it happen.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Actually, the complete opposite. My main struggle was my set back with a bad contractor and assuming things will go smoothly. Rushing to meet deadlines that I had set for myself.
Any advice people would try to give me at the beginning I listened but I wish I would have taken more seriously. So, my advice to young women looking to start their journey is to take all the advice you can and really listen and weigh out your opinions before making any big decisions. Do not rush just because you wanted to meet a certain deadline. Put in that extra time and ask for help. Always assume it will not go smoothly and prepare yourself for setbacks.
It’s okay to be afraid, but use that as fuel, motivation, and caution to make your dreams come true.
Life is too short not do what makes you happy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Mini Moo’s Tea Shop story. Tell us more about the business.
Mini Moo’s Tea Shop is a locally owned boba shop with some amazing made in house snacks. We have a huge selection of flavors so you won’t run out of ideas every time you come in. Our customers love that they can come in every day and get their regular favorite drink or try a new mixture without running out of ideas. If they have time, they come in and order a snack to pair with their refreshing drink or if they are in a hurry they can slide right through our drive-thru.
What sets us apart from other boba shops are that we are locally owned. Which means every.single.customer.counts. Which means, we try to cater to every customer to make them happy. Complaints, suggestions, and requests are heard and do not have to go through a strenuous corporate process before changes can be made. If there is something a customer didn’t like, we try to fix it immediately. If there are specific drinks or flavors a customer is requesting, we look into ways to provide this for them. If a customer provides some suggestions to make a drink better, we try it.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think a large barrier today for everyone, in general, is how much competition there is out there. Basically, there is so many ideas that have come to a reality for many and still a dream for others.
We should be taking advantage of this by networking and helping each other grow instead of seeing each other as competition.
