Conversations with the Inspiring Nicole Foote

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Foote.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Malas Created With Love started a couple of years ago as a way for me to de-stress as I was studying to become a CFA Charterholder. I would tie malas as a way to separate myself from the hours spent studying, occasionally making them for friends or family. Sometimes, I would post my creations to my social media page and a few friends reached out for me to make them customized malas, and it wasn’t until after they received their malas that they brought up the idea of me advertising my malas. And then, Malas Created with Love was born. The business is small – I still make them mainly for friends and family, occasionally getting sales on my Etsy page, and whenever I go on Yogi Magee yoga retreats, I work with Natalie Magee to create malas for those retreats.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Malas are soothing for me to create and it brings me joy when my customers enjoy my creations, but it’s still a small business. I work full time and also teach yoga on the side, so it’s not a business that I put a lot of time into but it still makes me happy to create malas for others.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I work as a financial analyst, teach yoga part-time, and make beautiful malas for friends.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I grew up in a military family and we moved every few years – living in different countries, starting at new schools, meeting new friends. I think this has really helped me become more open to different cultures, to help me connect with others, and to be able to initiate conversations in order to build relationships both personally and professionally.
