Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Anderson.
Nina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Have you ever felt that you had a bigger purpose in life and a calling to help others? A calling that keeps tugging at you but you just can’t seem to wrap your head around what it is, or you just don’t know how to take the steps needed to get you started or headed in the right direction to take action?
That was me just a few short years ago.
I had always worked in Corporate, I had a very fun and exciting career. For about 17 years of my Corporate life, I worked in the world of NASCAR and Indy Car marketing. I worked with local and national media organizations putting together fun promotions and campaigns to create brand awareness of my company. I had the honor to meet and work with some very incredible drivers and celebrities too. The work I did, never really felt like work, because it was fun and I felt somewhat fulfilled, but at the same time, I knew something was missing.
My last corporate venture was in home-building as the Marketing Manager for a large and prestigious home builder. I thought how awesome to work in a field of helping others to achieve one of the biggest American Dreams, of owning their own home. Well maybe if I hadn’t entered the market in 2005 and during one of the biggest downturns in the country, it may very well have been very rewarding. Instead, it was very stressful.
I survived seven rounds of lay-offs, and while I may have kept my job, it sure felt like “survivors guilt”. Watching your friends lose their job, and their lively hood, was devastating. In 2008, the company I worked for closed their doors and I was now officially laid off as well.
I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do, but I did know one thing… I would not be stepping back into a Corporate job unless I had too.
So, in 2008, I took a risk and left the Corporate world behind. It was time to take control of my life! I began my personal journey in Direct Sales, which by the way, something I had never done before. In fact, I didn’t even believe in Direct Sales or that anyone could actually make money doing it. I could not have been more incorrect.
What I found was an amazing opportunity to create the lifestyle I dreamed of. Having the flexibility to be my own boss, create my schedule around my life, deciding when I wanted a promotion and what income I wanted to earn. Not what someone else had in mind for me.
Having a Direct Sales or Network Marketing business is no different than any other entrepreneur, we all were the same hats as the CEO, the Marketing Department, the Sales Manager, Customer Service, and even the Complaint Department. But the biggest gift that I have learned from this journey, is my calling, my purpose to help others. When I started this journey, it was all about how much money can “I” make, but within a very short time period, I realized this industry is much much bigger than that. It’s about helping others.
As Zig Ziglar quoted “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
Once I realized this, the magic began to happen, my business exploded, my team exploded and I build a successful 6-figure business and income. And over the past 10 years, I have successfully helped so many others achieve the successes they desire for their life and family.
I know people can be successful and I know they can make a great income. I see so many people join a Direct Sales business and jump from one company to another, thinking the next one will be the one, the one that is the right fit and the one they can make income at and give them financial freedom. Here’s the thing, many times they have found the right company, but they may not have the right tools, systems, and processes in place to help them build a business, and that is where I can help. Knowledge and education is the most powerful asset we can arm ourselves with, and sometimes, it’s just a matter of looking at things slightly differently and having someone from the outside helping you to get there.
So, this year, I have decided it’s time to share my gifts with others in the world of Direct Sales and Network Marketing. I launched my new consulting business “Your Direct Sales Consultant” to do just that.
So, I guess you could say, I have found my calling, I have found what was missing, and I couldn’t be any happier or excited about this next journey in my life!
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, there were plenty of bumps in the road and many times I wanted to throw in the towel. But that is the easy thing to do. I guess if you really want something, and it feels really right, you have to keep trying, you can’t give up. I look at struggles as opportunities for growth. Many times when we struggle it’s because we may be stepping into the unknown, or getting out of our comfort zone. That’s when we grow, and we learn.
Early in my Direct Sales business, I was ready to throw in the towel, fortunately, and I stopped, took a step back and really thought about why I loved my business to begin with. Next, I had to come to the realization that I still had to make an income, so what was my Plan B, how would that happen? The thought of going back to Corporate scared me and so I decided I had to find resources to help me get on track with my business.
There are plenty of resources out there too, you just have to look and decide what is it that will help you with your journey. For me, it was hiring a DS Coach and it was the best decision I could have made.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Your Direct Sales Consultant story. Tell us more about it.
I understand the ins and outs of Direct Sales through my own journey. Having built my own successful 6-figure business and income, I know what it takes to make this happen. Over the past 10 years, I’ve helped hundreds of women build their own successful businesses, so they can have the financial freedom and lifestyle they choose.
I consider myself a consultant and a trainer, using my gifts of experience, expertise, being in the field, experiencing the disappointments as well as celebrating the triumphs to help others.
I work with women that have a Direct Sales or Networking Marketing business that has begun to build a team of consultants and wants to take their business to the next level. That next level can be many things – team growth, sales growth, or maybe a rank or team promotion.
I do this by helping them to create a business plan for growth and then establishing a clear road map on how to get the results they desire.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Just the words – Direct Sales, Networking Marketing and MLM, in general, tend to have a stigma around them. Some people don’t view this industry as a viable industry where people can really create and build a business. Therefore, we don’t always get the support we need from our friends, family, and our communities, which makes it hard for us to grow and build.
They see it more as a pyramid, but if you think about it, any corporation is a pyramid. There is generally one CEO and all the worker bees below. But here is one very big difference, we have the ability and the power to create our own path to the top. We don’t have to wait for someone to leave or for someone else to decide when we get a promotion. We get to make that decision.
We are entrepreneurs just like any other small business owner, and we have excellent and even unique products to offer. So, it kinda comes down to having the right mindset, that this is a viable business, and taking ownership of your business, treating yourself and your business with respect.
